The main 3 hoops players that Iowa lost in the portal (Josh Dix, Owen Freeman, and Payton Sandfort) were all productive players for Fran McCaffrey’s teams. Dix was the most productive of those three (smart team player who could manufacture his own shot) and the only one that most Iowa fans were disappointed that left. Freeman had a good freshman year, but last year he came into the season out-of-shape and had several nagging injuries, and when he did play he appeared lazy. Sandfort is a streaky shooter, but when he gets hot from 3-point land, can be an asset. However, after seeing Iowa this season under new coach Ben McCollum jump out to a 6-0 record by playing tenacious defense (something that Fran didn’t teach/preach), I’m not sure if any of those 3 former Iowa players would be getting significant playing time on this year’s team? None of them were likely quick enough nor had the abilities to play the kind of defense that McCollum demands.

Freeman is soft. Dix is pretty good, but he’s not some NBA guy. Losing McAndrews will end up killing Creighton…I doubt they make the make the tourney unless the make a massive turnaround quickly, and I’m not sure they have enough toughness or athleticism to do that.

Your new AD, who is more of a man than your old AD, made a great BB hire.
You guys will be a tough game for everyone in conference play, especially the second time through.

Purdue, Michigan (what a huge coaching upgrade May is from Howard) and Illinois are the top 3, MSU is right there too, but Iowa snagged a good coach.

Fran was fun to watch, he just should have done more when he had Garza and those twins, I can't remember their names.

With that said, he is in a great place now to finish out his coaching career.

Keagan and Kenyon Murray is who you are thinking of. Yeah, after the Coach Lickliter debacle (the Iowa coach b4 Fran) he brought Iowa back to respectability. It was just maddening to score 90 points in games and still lose due to horrendous defense. 🥴

Fran was maybe a bit ahead of his time. It is all 3 point shots now.

So far Creighton does not look very good. But I actually think they’re better off with Greer on the floor than McAndrew. Greer brings an element of toughness that the Jays are severely lacking.

If they lose today, to a bad Duck team, they are probably not making the dance. It doesn't help that the Big East is terrible this year now that STJ's has totally tuned out Pitino since he decided that they would try to be a high scoring team and not play defense.

If the jays come back from this holiday tourney 0-3, they are donezo.

Creighton wins! What a game! When the Jays make the Final Four, my wife says I have her permission to go! She’s my best friend!*

I was able to grab the Jays -6 because I missed the start of the game for my wagering purposes!

But it was interesting to see that the game was a contest of two coaches, both that are done at the end of the season, both of who coach (or coached) the Jays.

Huskers are undefeated with the longest win streak in the country. Creighton has what, 4 losses now? 5? I lost count.

Smile Tom.
