Ohio U just hired away Stony Brook’s head coach. Have to imagine Young’s going to be in serious consideration for the job

It's only a matter of time for Jay to be scooped up. I got to believe SB has to have him at the top of their list.
It would be good for him but this really hurts our team because he is Pike's right arm and have coached together for many years. He really has been a solid hire for us and selfishly would love to retain him.

I mean, they could have hired him when Pike left. Now they decide to change their mind? I’m sure there is some kind of dynamic in there.

The only guy to go after is head coach of Ranney, Tahj Holden. That would be a splash hire to replace Young.

Has he actually done anything? My sense was Klatsky's dad pretty much ran the show in getting Antoine and Lewis to play there.

I think Jay Young was a candidate the last when Pikiell left and he was the number.1 assistant....he was passed over when they.went outside to hire.

Surprised he left for Ohio University. Would have thought he’d leave for a bigger school. He’s a good coach. Setting himself up for a big 10 job

Antoine and Lewis are already signed, sealed and delivered to Villanova and Florida, if that's your thinking.

Jay Young is a great coach. I would imagine he felt insulted when stony brook didn't offer him the job. I would be surprised if he went there out of all places. He is in high demand.

Make no mistake about it. If Pikiell lost anyone out of his coaching staff, Jay Young would probably be the one that would be hardest to replace. It would be a big loss. Well see what happens.

No, I know they are signed. Tahj Holden was a D1 player for Maryland for 4 years, grew up in NJ and he is well liked in NJ and just won the NJ TOC as a head coach.

Okay, just making sure. I doubt Holden gets the call unless Pikiell has a connection to him that we don't know about. Will need someone who can coach up big men too.

I remember Holden from when he was a recruit. We went after him pretty hard and we were in it til the end. He played in h.s. with Sean Axani, who did sign to play at RU.

Young is most likely not going anywhere. The athletic director is trying to make big splash hires. They passed over young who spent 11 years at sbu and helped turn the program around while he was the defensive expert that sbu was known for and recruited the best player ever, jameel Warney, and other very good players like purifoy and yeboah. The AD hired a search firm to hire boals who was coming from an Ohio state team on the decline. He was also an Ohio go with limited ny ties. It didn’t make sense. The ad did hire Parker who hire him. Which is a scam if you ask me. Unfortunately young was to boring. Boals was sexy.

There was no loyalty then and their will most likely not be any now...

The interesting thing is boals has set sbu back. He was supposed to get sbu to the next level. He finished 2nd in year one and lost in semis, year two finished 5th and lost in semis and this year finished second but lost in quarters to a terrible Binghamton team. All in 5 out of 7 of boal’s all conference players were recruited by pikiell and his staff. Pikiell and co hasn’t lost in quarters at sbu since 09 which was the last time he finished 5th and thef first year of a freshman class that changed the entire program.

I expect Jay Young to get the Fairfield job. It was reported by NJ.com that the current AD at Fairfield wanted to hire Jay Young when he was AD at Central Conn State.

Young is very well regarded in coaching circles. He has a lot of loyalty to people who are loyal to him. Pikes is one of them. He has been with him since the beginning. Stony Brook would need to put a hard sell for him to leave RU. I also agree that SB won’t call him... When Pikes left for RU everyone at Stony Brook wanted Jay to replace Pikiell. Writers, fans, alumni. The AD who hired Pikes was gone and the new AD wanted to put his own mark on the program. It was devastating to Jay after helping building Stony Brook to a perennial conference championship contender year in and year out.

Young will get his opportunity! He is too good of a coach for programs not to take notice. Especially with what Pikes & staff are building here.

I’d be very sad to lose assistants before we even made the NCAA tournament. What have they helped us do, move up from 14th to 12th? I would hope they owe it to Pike to help him over the hump.
