I want to see this dude playing on Sunday’s
I want to see this dude playing on Sundays for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers had several TU players. In the 1950s the Steelers played a couple of exhibition games in Tulsa because of Jim Finks and Marv Matuszak. Steve August played for the Steelers at the end of his career. Also, Rick Engel punted for Pittsburgh one season. There are a lot of Steeler fans in Tulsa. I run into them whenever I am wearing Steeler gear. Also, there are two Steeler bars in Tulsa. I doubt there is a Cleveland Brown bar in Tulsa.

I think one more year would up his chances of NFL but also up his chances of missing out depending on who we have coming back next year. We are losing a lot this year I believe.

I hope he returns. And, then becomes a Dallas Cowboy. We still outnumber the tiny fan bases for other fans.

I believe Jaxon has the option of a Covid make up year. Has he given any indication on whether he’s returning or moving on?
I understand he has accepted an invitation to an all-star game. If he plays he won’t be eligible next year.

A little off topic but when loca and I were in Daytona for the basketball tournament we met one of the workers at the arena who said he knew Steve August. He might have gone to school with him, loca can probably remember the conversation better.

I do not know of any Bengels bars in Tulsa. There are two Steeler bars in Tulsa. I run into many people with Steeler license plates, shirts and hats. Of course, Tulsa is mostly Cowboys and Chiefs fans but there are large Packers and Steeler clubs in Tulsa.

Steve August went to High School in Jeanette, Pennsylvania. Jeanette is about 20 miles east of Pittsburgh. He lives in Tulsa. A few years ago, I met him at a Golden Hurricane Club event.

Of course, the Dallas Cowboys have the most fans on any NFL team in the Tulsa area. After the Cowboys the Chiefs. Beyond those two local teams the Packers and Steelers appear to have large numbers despite the distance from those cities. The Packer Backers meet for a weekly tailgate party at the hotel at 71st and South Lewis. The club inside the hotel is the local Packer bar. There are two Steeler clubs in Tulsa, once meets at the Arena Sports Bar across from the BOK Center and the other now meets at Roosters at 71st and Memorial. Those are the only ones I know about. Do the other NFL teams have an organized presence in Tulsa. A few years ago, the local media fell in love with the Cleveland Browns because of Baker Mayfield. The Browns pre-game, games and post-games were on one of the local radio stations. There has been an inordinate number of Browns games televised on Sunday. A couple of times the local stations televised the Browns instead of the Chiefs. I do not know any Cleveland Browns fans in Tulsa.

One Chiefs bar is Fat Daddy's, 81st and Memorial.
I think there is another one, not sure where.

Gus Frerotte was from Ford City, PA. That town is on the Allegheny River about 25 miles Northeast of Pittsburgh. Western Pennsylvania was a regular recruiting area for Tulsa. Tony Liscio was from Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, TU and then the Dallas Cowboys. Michael Wall was another TU Quarterback from Washington PA (Little Washington) Southwest of Pittsburgh.

Here is a link to a 1991 Tulsa World Article about TU's Pennsylvania Pipeline. It mentions the Spanos Brothers and Ostrowski. Actually, Jerry O was from Eastern Pennsylvania. The article does not mention them but there were two Purifoy Brothers from Homestead, PA.

The last noteworthy TU player with ties to Western Pennsylvania is Brennan Marion. Marion is the receivers coach at Pitt but there are rumors he is trying to move up to an offensive coordinator job.
