Jacob really improved as the season went on. He is a very important part of our team and I am so glad he is at RU.
Dude is starting and/or playing major mins come the season.

I think the lesson here needs to be that we need to give newcomers about 15 or so games or probably 250 to 300 minutes of floor time, to make a judgment on what we have.
From the restart of the B1G games from January 3rd at Nebraska, covering 17 games, Young in 22 minutes per game, generates 8.5 PPG.
Pretty solid bench production and strong defense.
Careful of what you wish for.
Assuming he plays 22-25 MPG anything north of 10 PPG either means very high % numbers OR too many shots.
I really like the math and concept around a lot of players in the 8-12 PPG. Double digit guys being Baker and Ron.
No kid like JY on roster. He can get you 10 pts in a blink of an eye with a couple of blow bye lay ups, 2 pt fg, three pointer and a FT; and lb for lb I feel he’s the best defender on roster. If he plays under control and takes high percentage shots within team concep, kid has to be on the floor. Guys with his athleticism and speed do not grow on trees.

He certainly got better as the season progressed. I was ready to have him benched big time early on
Anyway he still has his mishaps. I recently rewatched the Purdue season finale. We had a small lead late when he fouled on a three point shot, and he was thisclose to having a technical foul for mouthing off
It could have been five points and the ball for Purdue, a game we were desperate to win
I don’t disagree but the competitive fire is part of his mental makeup and it’s infectious to the team. He has to be present in the moment and if he continues to show maturity, a player of his caliber is integral to the team making a run in THE tourney.

part of the maturity is knowing the consequences of his actions.... RU needed that game in a big way...he made a mistake that many make, foul on a three point shot...that should have been the end of it, but he mouthed off enough to get the announcers attention for discussion....a tech there would have sunk us, imo
He always had talent but played out of control. Coach slowed his thinking process down and he started to make better decisions. He went from a fast athlete to a fast ball player. Difficult task but he put in the work. One of my favorite players.
Agree. Not to excuse his response but part of it was to the bad call and the fact of how it could determine the winner of game. Then in OT he hits the first shot and then has a highlight reel dunk on the tallest player on the court to help seal the victory for RU. Kid needs to be on the court period as long as he’s not hurting the talented team around him.

My wife and I were pulling our hair out with Jacob’s play in the OOC. He was not sharing the game and he was way too erratic.
Then the Caldwell game happened. From black and white with a tornado warning to color, birds and flowers. Wizard of Oz stuff! Just like that!
Jacob helped us a lot during the B1G schedule last year and we need him even more this year. I am so happy for Jacob and his transformation. What a teammate and what a weapon for us!
