I don't know how many more wins we get this year, but I've seen enough for myself to believe this program will only go up. We've finally gotten a coach who knows what he's doing and a staff that is improving our guys. We've also seen this staff make adjustments each game (look at the number of 3s we've shot the last few games).

I believe we're missing a few pieces, but am confident that they'll be added. I wouldn't be shocked to see us grab a CBA-type spot shooter who might be a limited defensively, but can consistently hit a shot.

I wish we would've won the game today (and we prob should've), but being competitive on the road in conference is something we haven't really been in a while, so I'll take it.

We're going to be good real soon.

Pike can coach, can he recruit, we will find out, thats what its about. Jordan's teams were blown out by Iowa including last year whose 14 point score wasnt as close as it was. Going on the road and leading a good part of the 2nd half and losing by 6 is progress and a sign of coaching.

There is no compelling evidence that Rutgers will be good real soon.Next season the squad will be very similar with the same offensive woes in place. In 2018 the team loses Sa,Williams,Johnson and Freeman to graduation and perhaps Sanders. The 2018 recruiting class must bring in players that can contribute immediately and not be just some more complementary type players.Fans have been in the wishful thinking mode for decades and the results have remained the same.

Not only can he recruit, but if he does recruit a big class, can he get them to buy in? We've said good things about coaches like Gary Waters and Mike Rice in their first years, knowing they can coach, but then they bring in their players and have a hard time getting the kids to buy in. Not only is getting a big class for Pikiell key, but also meshing them so most of them are happy.

yes, I think alot of RU fans have been burnt in the past by putting their eggs all in with a particular coach. All signs are great right now with Pikiell but until he actually gets the recruits and then molds them into a winning team, the rest is just blind faith to go on right now. Nothing is a sure shot or slam dunk when you are so far behind as RU is. This is likely going to take 6-7 years....hmm remember we heard that 3 years ago before Jordan was hired.

Even Gary Waters said this was a 7 years building project and that was 16 years ago. It took Willard 6 years to put his system in place, land the talent, and then find the right way to mingle that talent (remember Kevin Willard's first year with Whitehead was a crazy chemistry mess that made everyone think he was being fired). It's not just about coach, recruiting, and mixing talent. It takes a while to get all of that in order.

I actually like it when bac and I agree.

If Sanders improves his pull up and range next year, and Thiam takes similar steps, we can be better. Or maybe someone else improves in an unexpectated way. Otherwise, yeah, more of the same.

Rutgers looked every bit as good as Iowa. Difference is they didn't have any outside threat and lacked a consistent scorer. During the last 5 minutes there were so many times when a made three would have been the difference for Rutgers but nothing fell. With no scorer on the court like a Jok it was left to sanders to force drives and the results were self-evident. It's tough when your bigs lack offensive skills.....

I agree with this.. I have been saying that this years team has the best chance at a .500 record for at least five years because of this. The 2018 recruiting class may be really good but I feel it will be like the Mack/Jack/Carter/etc. class in which it will not be a good team with a bunch of freshman.

Not saying there are absolute ways of going about it, but I liked the way Willard and Jim Larranaga at Miami went about building a program. Willard got, shall I say, creative with recruiting and landed a top 15 and top 50 player. Sprinkle that in with a couple 100-150 guys and SHU appears to be on the right track. On the other hand, Larranaga built a roster via transfers and let the recruiting come after the success. The year they reached the sweet 16 and were ranked #2 in the country at one point the average age of their roster was like 22.

That's called adjustments. Instead of catching and making 17 spin moves into traffic, Freeman caught the passes and went right up with it. Adjustments.

Loved the two quick move jump hooks. I was hoping he would develop that move. I mentioned it in other threads. When done as quick as he did them it neutralizes the height issues some.

I keep hoping someone will blossom & step up. But with SA , Thiam, Diallo & Gettys getting a bucket apiece while Williams, Doorson & Omoruyi get goose eggs....its hard to win games when SEVEN of the guys who are in the rotation dont contribute offensively

I am beginning to doubt we will win a game in the B10...& I am usually VERY optimistic !

I have NO DOUBT the team & coaches are feeling low.
Most of the kids came from successful high school programs and arent used to losing on a regular basis..
Its going to be hard for our players to regain their optimism....

Every team has that one game or so where their shots fall. We'll have at least one of those and we'll win.
