One....can he recruit big ten level players

Two...if he can recruit big ten level players, can he develop them both on an individual skills and athletic level and in team basketball

How does it project?

The answer to the first question is, as of right now, his first team is no senior team with 9 scholarship players and 2 verbals...so he has a nucleus to start with from Eddie regime. Only has two ships to give out for the next two years....so short of an exodus, his early returns will be about answering the SECOND question first

He has to hit the ground running and make those two ships count for his first class...and build the relationships with the current soph (class of 2018) where he will have four scholarships

Developing and overachieving next year ...I.e. A winning season which is possible if he is a good X's and O's coach, would do wonders for his second recruiting season....

Pikiell coaches defense. His teams excel in opposing FG%. So we assume he will coach fundamentals pretty well in general. That alone could get the RAC rocking again. Double the win total and then some? Why not?

This situation may work out well for him. Assuming he gets two decent players with the ships available this year and as you suggest in your post there are no departures he has two years to work with a reasonably experienced team. If he coaches them up well and there is significant improvement on the court it may make recruits two years down the line more receptive. If he had a senior laden team for next year that would put him in a rebuilding phase in year two and a drop in on the court success might look bad. Time will tell

He has the relationships with the local recruiting contacts and just needs to be successful recruting tthe upper echelon players on those teams. Anything he brings in at this point for next year is gravy given the time of year. I would not be surprised if he holds one or considers a transfer instead of getting two who can play next year.

I would like him to hold the ships at this point if we keep our other two verbals in the fold
Holding scholarships is a risky game, particularly if you have any transfers coming in. See this year.

I expect Pikiell will manage the roster in a much improved manner then we have seen the past few years.

Yeah but he gets a pass on next yeras results. Much prefer he holdd ships for 17 when he wiill have time to build relationships and pool is deeper. Spring signees rarely pan out

I do think he will go after a big man, the paint was a disaster this past year, we lose a guy, and we really didn't get another center type yet in the '17 class. Even if it is just a big body to help out a few minutes a game.

It might be a good strategy to look for a grad transfer for one year. That way you get a kid for this year and you get a ship back for next year. Late in the recruiting season to pull it off but,you never know

Only sign players for next year if there is a fit. No getting guys to fill the roster. Empty seat on the bench is not terrible.

Obviously, it would make no sense to sign a one year grad transfer who isn't going to play.

Would be nice if Jameel Warney the Stony Brook senior would be a grad transfer. Doubtful, probably has professional dreams right now after a season like he had.

But one can dream.

Sr Rashuan McGrew seems to be the only SB senior that appears to have only played 3 Years. Don't know his story.
