Don't want to jinx the young man, but it sure appears that way based on the stats to date. 52% FG %, 41% 3pt %, 82% FT%...4.2 RPG, Assists/TO ratio 2.7...21 steals, good defender. Maybe there were some guards in the last 20 years who were better in certain aspects of the game, but I'd argue he's the most complete player we've seen in a long while.

Being at this stage in his career I’d say he’s up there. Other than Puke game which was first game of his college career he never gets sped up….That’s what I love about him the most and his mid range game is lethal. He def isn’t scared of a challenge….first time ever as a starting PG he just goes out and sets UK single assist record.

I think if you look at the data (stats), you'd be hard pressed to find any other guard that was ahead of him at this stage of their freshman year.
We’re halfway into January. Man, I love what he’s doing for our squad. Love it. But you have got to slow down here.

Some of you guys and your reactionary “best ever!” stuff is just crazy.

Oh man. Wall, Fox, Murray, Monk. Knight, SGA. Bledsoe. Booker. Ulis. Herro. Maxey. Quickley. We’ve had a bunch of good guards. If he even leaves here considered top 5 among Cal’s guards he’s accomplished a lot.
He is in the conversation. But honestly, there have been so many and they are so close, it really would be hard to rank them. Easier if you break down to PG and 2G. But then with Tyty it's tough to know which bucket to put him in. I think there have been better playmakers, and there have been better scorers and better shooters. But I think he might have the best mix.

List above should also include SGA.

Understand it's early in the season. But, his SEC stats are even better than the overall numbers...including 54% FG, and 43% 3pt FG%. ...4.6 rpg.

Screw stats. We have some pgs on the list that showed up big in big games. Knight was a killer on a team with very little support.

I wonder where Washington would rank with those other freshmen guards on offensive efficiency and all-around game - again just for freshmen years? I'm curious, but not curious enough to research it. But I think you're a good math guy, so maybe it'll entice you or some of the others handy with stats to answer it sometime.

I watched the highlights from yesterday’s game. For the first time, I realized how sneaky fast he is (ending a sentence with a preposition, for which I apologize profusely).

No, I know what you meant. Cal’s best guard ever.

You need to slow your roll and look at the list first. Sone of y’all just can’t help yourselves.
I agree. He's an unbelievable talent but we've had some greats. He is no doubt one of the top 4/5 most complete guards though.
Wall wasn't as complete but his athleticism trumps most. We've had a few in categories like this

Based on college impact only:

1.) Wall
2.) Ulis
3.) Monk
4.) Knight
5.) Fox
6.) Murray
7.) Andrew Harrison
8.) SGA
9.) Quickley
10.) Bledsoe
79.) Ryan Harrow
80.) Devin Askew
Any list with SGA 8th and Quickley 9th is a great list!

He doesn’t have to do as much. Imagine SGA instead of TyTy on this team. Or Wall. Or Fox. He’s absolutely great but he’s also had the least pressure of almost all our other guards.

The guy said Cal’s best guard ever. Surprised folks haven’t brought up Rose or Evans. Not UK guards, but certainly fall into the OPs category.

He has yet to prove (to me) that he is better than Wall, Knight, Ulis, SGA, Rose, Lamb, and Murray. No particular order there.

Didn’t watch Evans a lot when he was in college. And in order for him to keep the guards I didn’t mention from overtaking him he’s going to have to keep it up (obviously). He’s a damn good guard and I expect him to top 5 Cal UK guards when all is said and done.

I was referring to Cal's best at UK...but you're correct, Rose was terrific. We'll see what his ceiling is, but I think he'll prove to be considerably better than Ulis, way better than Lamb, somewhat better than Knight. Murray is a good comparison in terms of being a combo guard, although I think Ty Ty makes better decisions and is a little better all around. Wall was a beast obviously. What is absolutely true is we have been blessed with a slew of great guards.

Yeah, in the category of Cal's best overall guard, Washington's gonna finish a lot higher than people in this thread seem willing to give him credit for. He's extremely poised and has a very complete game.

At some point in this discussion, though, you're gonna run into an apples and oranges problem. At minimum, it might be wise to separate the facilitators from the shooters.
