So many quality player that make major contributions that receive plenty of playing time. Something must not be right?

Problem a lot of these guys don’t see is many rosters need cut with the 105 and too many enter the portal lately for what can be used. Spots are a premium. Lots of guys that deserve spots are going to put themselves in purgatory and have to drop down levels.

It also just sucks that you can’t really get behind the team as a whole because likely it will change the next year every time.

There are no teams anymore, just groups of mercenaries.

We had a major coaching change on the d side that’s where the majority are . The offense players EJ is the only one that has left that would have played Gabe Irvin and Coleman were told to hit the road. Danny K hit take portal because he knows he has zero chance of beating out the California kid for 2nd string next season.

Only two good reasons to enter the portal.
1. You have a better offer in hand
2. You aren’t welcome to stay.

Leaving voluntarily on the assumption you will do better without knowing exactly where you will end up is a bad idea, especially this year.

I have to assume EJ has an offer. We will know soon enough.

No. 19-20yr olds trying to get rich.

Guys trying to cash in while they can. As much as I wish we could keep 2-3 of these guys I understand. These guys may not ever get a shot at the NFL. Not knowing specific backgrounds some of these kids probably come from nothing. If switching teams can be the difference between 100k and 500k simply to play the same game I get it. As a 18-21 year old who didn't grow up with much of probably do the same thing.

I know yesterdays price is not todays price but 3 years of 6 figure income is a hell of a jumpstart in "life" if the NFL doesn't come calling. Sucks for the fans but I get it

So according to your narrative, Nebraska's portal issues are the fault of Matt Rhule. Would the portal entries at all of the other schools also be Matt Rhule's fault? Or would it be Trev Alberts?

It feels like redshirting anyone is pointless now. You are only saving the year of eligibility for the next school he is going to transfer to instead. Might as well get use out of them now while you have them.

Oh there's something systemic alright, but it's the entire system not just Nebraska. Honestly, I'm enjoying the NFL a lot more these days. College football is a really, really stupid sport right now. It's a complete flip for me personally over the last 10 years.

At present Nebraska is a 6-6 team that wants to be better than that. EJ, Gbayor and Jimari are players that could start for a 6-6 team. Unless recruiting rankings are a total fail, Nebraska has recruited a number of blue chip athletes over the past three recruiting cycles. Some of that talent should be ready to play . There will be comparable talent to the players that are leaving in the portal. I’ve heard that Nebraska employs a small army of people in their football program and a number of these individuals watch film for a job. Find the players, get them on campus and get them on the roster. We may find that the Parker kid is a much better back then EJ. And Dowdell is essentially a first year player when it comes to game experience. He will no doubt get better.

Some of you folks should really pay attention to what’s going on across the landscape of college football and not just Nebraska. There are guys from Oregon already hitting the portal and they might play for a national title. Guess all locker rooms have an issue, eh picklerick?

Its been fun watching the lions build their roster and grow together the past few years, with some players who were unknowns even.
Not exactly the same or as good as the pre portal days but better than what the ncaa is now.

Oregon has signed 58 four or five star players in the last three recruiting cycles, merely 20 per class. And of course that doesn’t count players they already had on the roster. If the distribution of players is balanced that means that they could have a depth chart composed of all blue chip players.

Dowdell might get better too if Barthell goes away (speculated to happen).

Once again, this whole crap show is a disaster and it's a disaster mostly for the athletes. Yeah, a lot of them will get paid but very few of them will get life changing money and many more will find themselves in a worse situation after entering the portal or left out in the cold. But beyond all that it is not teaching them to persevere where they are at and overcome rather than trying to take the easy way. And how about showing loyalty and commitment to something other than themselves? Yeah right.

I tend to agree.

I'm not sure keeping a bunch of kids that "need development" is gonna pay off in this day of chasing the almighty dollar. As soon as they "get developed", they're subject to leaving.

The exception being if they are legitimately a medical redshirt.
We shouldn't hold that against those kids since injuries happen.

55% of portal entries NEVER find another team to play for. Not counting guys who moves down to D2. Of the 45% that find homes. 20% are starter level at new team. If you remove guys with less than 3 years of experience at the school they are leaving the numbers plummet from there. These kids are rolling the dice with their futures.
