Does Duke look really good?

SDSU has nice length and a very competitive defense, yet Duke is scoring with relative ease. I know SDSU cannot score, whatsoever, but this opening portion of the game is the best I've seen any team look in the tournament.


Thoughts, opinions, hopefully no claims of me being a Duke/dirty bird/or fan of any other opponent.







My paranoia is beginning to set in.

Duke is really good and I hate it how to contain all those shooters. Plus guess which way borderline calls will go.

Duke does look good, but SDSU is also playing awful. No defense, and cant throw the ball in the ocean

Duke caught a huge break with St. John's guy being suspended...and as a result got the more favorable match up. Then again, if the guy had not been suspended then St. John's is probably not in Duke's bracket.

They look good against a bad team that cannot score. Duke is not going to lose to some team that cannot score...it just won't happen. You have to outscore them, be able to score inside and outside, and play some good D. Not many teams can do that...but there is one out there I know Duke would struggle against.

Duke is very good and anyone that says otherwise doesn't know basketball. I think they are the second best team and if the Cats meet them in the finals it would be an epic game.

SDSU is not very good.

They have no one to guard Okafor. They struggle scoring and they are getting beat on the break. That spells disaster when playing Duke. You have to attack the basket and score to have a chance to beat them, because they are going to score.

sdsu gug their own hole by missing wide open 3s and a couple in close early. they seem to be intimidated

It is you and it has more to do with who they are playing. I would love to see Duke play Cincy.

Okafor AND Winslow have been impressive, to be fair. Winslow can ball and he's not a giant doitchbag like Jones or Cook. He also doesnt have the prototypical Duke "look" like Grayson Allen.

Agree that I would have loved to see Duke play Cinci. I think Duke is maybe the 2nd best team in the country but would like to see them play a real team and not SDSU. SDSU, at times, just looks lost out there.

I was impressed with Winslow during the Mickey D's game last year. I was hoping his athleticism would not translate to the collegiate level, but he's been solid all year.

Duke has the components to win a championship. Athletic guards and wings that can slash and shoot, and a very dominating big man down low. Defensively they are good, but not great. An opposing defense will be cause them some problems, but that team must also score or it negates their average defense.

Every team looks great until they face a good defense. Their opponent today has't offered up even a token defense. They haven't put a single Blue Devil on his butt. UK would have loved playing against the soft defense yesterday.

Okafor looks impressive because no one has put a body on him. He won't look like he does today with some pounding from the bigs.

Probably also helps too that the whole SDSU team came down with the ***** before the game started.

If Okafort is all aloud to lower his shoulder all the time it's not easy to stop him unless you do the Duke fall every time.
He is a very good player that gets away with anything to score, pushes off every time a defender is close. I would guarantee if he played for UK he would foul out in the first half. But they are a great team as much as it pains me to say that. Duke is in my top three of the most hated, don't like rat face either.

Duke's defense is mediocre at best. This SDS team is completely devoid of upper level D1 talent. They won the games they won this year due to their size relative to the weaker teams they played. In fact, they lost to Cincy by 9 in December.

That said, Duke has a lot of offensive fire power and can beat anyone on a given night because of this fact. UK's length on the perimeter and beef inside would make it much more uncomfortable for Duke to score than they are used to but I do think they would give us a pretty good challenge.

I think this has more to do with how poor Sandiego played imo. Dukes defense is terrible. It would be a different story against UK.

Call me nancy, but this is something I've feared since the season started, and there aerre about 4 posters who crucified me over it. A few of our good posters counted Duke out after their second loss.

You're forgetting one thing: defense. Not one single team since 2002 has won the championship when ranked outside the top 25 in adjusted defensive efficiency. Prior to today, Duke ranked 55th.

You need to look at this possible game the other way around. Who does Duke put on Willie? Who does Duke put on Kat?
Who guards Tray? What you see with SDSU and Duke today is no way any indication of how they would play against the CATS. Did you see one trip down the floor where SDSU actually guarded the ball? Any denial of entry into the post by SDSU? How about guarding the 3 point line by SDSU? Did SDSU move the ball from wing to wing for good distribution?

What you saw with this game was a Duke team on their offensive game with a SDSU team that played very little to no defense. Think of how SDSU played and then think how the game would of looked if it was the CATS playing them.

They have a great offense and can score with anyone but their defense doesn't impress me and I think our depth would wear them down.

Wow! Grow a pair. Duke will have to play a good team to win it all. If either team is UK or Arizona then they are in trouble.

A couple of notes about this game. Duke is not going to shoot that well against a team like UK, and a team like UK or Wisconsin or whoever is not going to shoot 32% like SD ST did today.

In my life time UK is 1-6 agInst Duke. 1-4 in games I have actually witnessed. Sorry if I don't have much faith in winning if we do play them
