Is Anyone Else Nervous About This Week?

1. Unproven quarterback.
2. We really don't know who is our best receiver.
3. Shell hasn't played well at all.
4. Untested offensive line.
5. Defensive line that doesn't get to the quarterback very well.

You add all that up...along with being a 2 TD+ favorite and looking forward to playing OU next week. Could that equal to being a trap game?

I'm worried because I don't think anyone really knows how good MD actually is this year. They fell apart in the 2nd half of the BG game or would be undefeated

Mountaineer fans who aren't nervous about playing this game are either in a coma or dead. The schedule cream puffs are gone and every game from here on is loseable.

6. Casual fans may not get this, but West Virginia's shutout of Georgia Southern is one of the most impressive wins in college football thus far this season.

There is every reason to be optimistic with the Mountaineers at home in front of a SRO crowd.

I think we dominate the game if we dont turn the ball over and if stay even on special teams.

I guess some nerves are to be expected.

Nope. Not me. Not nervous one little bit.

Now ..... anything could happen and sometimes things just backfire. It happens. But I am not one bit nervous about this game.

If anyone is nervous it should be Maryland. Ya'll know that Bowling Green passed for 490+ yards against the Twerps. Right?

Our defense is going to rattle a quarterback like you haven't seen in a while.

Any Mountaineer fan should not take any single game for granted.

That said, we should win this game going away. We have every right to be confident.

There is a difference.

Me neither. All I have to do is watch the game. I'm confident I can do that. If not, there is really no consequences for failure to do so.

I don't know why anyone not playing or coaching would be nervous.

You said it. Except for making a boatload of noise in the stands, there isn't much a fan can do to effect the outcome of a game. Why worry about it?

The thing that really gets me is seeing fans down for days because there favorite team loses. With the players and coaches, when the game is done, it's done. You've got the next game coming up too soon to sweat it. If you're a fan, why get all bent out of shape over what a bunch of nineteen and twenty year old guys do on any given Saturday? (Who knows why they do anything?) During the game holler and have fun, afterwards let it go. It's not worth the stress.

This is WVU's first true chance to show how good they really are.

I expect a great showing. And lots of butthurt from the normal Poutineers on here.

Yeah, I am a little. I think we should win, but it just seems every time our fan base gets over confident is when we lose and lose bad. We are not the top program in the country. We are at best one of the top teams in our conference this year. Every game from here on out WVU has to play next to flawless. Anyone who thinks we are dominant has not been paying very close attention to the parity in the NCAA these last few years.

As always, certain teams stack up better than others. Maryland stacks up well against us the way they play. However they are very young, which should prove beneficial to us.

I hope we roll them...but I think it will be tight like last year. We jumped out early and they fought back hard. Expect a similar result.

I've watched each of Maryland's games. The defense is not very good. WVU will make yardage against them, especially through the air. Maryland's offense was entirely different with the new QB ... had the first starter not been benched, I think WVU wins by 3 TDs. This new guy, though...he's going to be troublesome, although he will make a mistake when rushed hard. But he gets the ball out on time and he's pretty accurate. It'll be interesting to see how they respond away from home. Is it a game WVU should win? Yes.

An earlier poster said WVU's win over Georgia Southern was one of the most impressive in college football so far. I don't know about that, but I know that Georgia Southern has demolished the next two teams it played. Does it translate to future games? Not really. That game was much closer to playing Air Force than it was any Big XII team, I think.

again with the "unproven QB" crap? Howard is 3-1 as a starter and produced this stat line in 5 games (4.5):

58% completion. 1,451 total passing yards. 323 yards/game. 13 TDs. 2.5 TDs/game. 0 INTs. 75 rushing yards. 4 yards/carry

I get that the numbers look good...I am not saying he won't be great. But as of today...his best win is Georgia State or a 2-8 Iowa State team last year. Do you not agree that to this point he has struggled with fitting the ball in tight windows (Usually throws the ball high)? I think this game needs to be his coming out party.

We haven't played Georgia State for several years. We played Georgia Southern this year.
Howard has made some good passes this year; several balls thrown right on the money. This will be a nice "tune up" game for Oklahoma.

I don't get nervous over these type of games especially this upcoming game. You win, you win. You lose, you lose. Like few other posters said, we cannot do much about the outcome besides cause communication problems or feed the team energy. Fans aren't the ones playing the game. But anyways, WVU should run them over, not because we are awesome but because this Maryland team is pretty down this year. Plus, WVU has a pretty solid team that I think many Mountaineer fans are selling this team short. The only time I get nervous for WVU games usually occur in basketball during March Madness because I know it could be the last WVU game I could watch until the next season starts in November.

Any Mountaineer fan that knows our history with Maryland should be at least a bit nervous. Also, as our game with MD goes, normally so goes our season.

Probably due mainly to the unfamiliarity of most media and fans with Georgia Southern even being in the FBS, much less having won the Sun Belt last year in their inaugural season.

If the Eagles continue to bounce back well from our game, that may be a win that looks better nationally by December than it does now.

Same here with basketball, Beer. When I first started dating my wife I told her, "One of these days you'll find me dead on the floor from a WVU basketball game."

Things have changed though. Nearly all of the basketball games are televised and Caridi keeps you constantly updated on the score on the radio side. When Jack was calling the games on radio, you might get the score a few times a half, and then normally early on. If WVU was making a run on a rated opponent or rival in a game, everything went out the window. It used to drive me crazy.

WVU once made a monster comeback against #13 Temple to win a game in the early 90's. Jack didn't give the score for the last ten minutes of the game, he was so wound up. You got "WVU down by two", "WVU up by one" but he didn't give the score until the horn sounded. It was classic Jack Fleming.

I wish I was around for those days. From everything I hear about him and few Youtube clips I've listened to, he sounded legendary.

Every game has a different impact at the final gun than it does two months later when you see that a "tough" team really was a "soft" team.
Georgia Southern and Liberty are not Oklahoma, TCU or Baylor -- duh! -- but shutting out the Eagles and holding the Flames to one TD (by the first team defense) is pretty impressive, no matter who you're playing.
We all know the Maryland game usually predicts how the season will go: Beat Maryland and WVU nearly always goes to bowl game; lose to the Terps and the Mountaineers stay home more often than not.
We'll all be a lot smarter by 7 p.m. Saturday. And even smarter 8 days later.

M ighty defense throttled Georgia Southern, 44-0

O utstanding defense obliterated Liberty, 41-17

U nilaterally decimate Maryland

N euter Oklahoma

T rample Oklahoma State

A nnihilate Baylor

I ncinerate TCU

E rectile dysfunction Texas

E viscerate Kansas

Me neither.
I don't know why anyone not playing or coaching would be nervous.

Ive been nervous about every WVU sporting event that I was ever aware of because I care and its important to me. For me to not be nervous I would have to totally not care. State pride, personal pride or whatever it is. Im nervous every time.

You guys make me laugh! Will see what happens. Only one guy on here actually knows about MD. Our QB Rowe has a great arm and we have some good talent. Young, but some solid players. Better O-line and you can't stop Will. He is just too fast. UMD never worries in any sport! You guys lose a football game and want to end your life. We enjoy the whole year in CP. Good luck after Sat. to your team.
