Another heartbreaker for the Hawkeyes. Unlike @ OSU, no one can fault the effort or the energy, but Iowa simply couldn't come up with a key play down the stretch. It was 59 apiece for a long time, and neither team could get the ball in the basket until, of course, MSU did, and that was the ball game.
Congrats to Uhlis for playing the best game of his career. Rebraca brought it as he always does, and he showed some terrific new moves around the basket. Unfortunately, the ball often failed to go in for him which, of course, really hurt. The Hawkeyes didn't get many FTs, and when they did, they missed most of the time, including a key 1-1 late, and that was a killer.
For us long-time Iowa fans, this was just one more gut punch. The guys gave it the effort we've been asking for, but the ball just wouldn't go in the basket enough. And yes, that last play Fran drew up was perfect. They got exactly what they wanted, but this time there was no happy ending. Such is Big Ten basketball. Such is life.
All the guys can do is come back to Carver on Sunday and take down Rutgers again, continue to win at home and see what happens. But no doubt about it--after taking a 10-0 lead in East Lansing--this one hurts.
