With a bit of a snoozer dual this weekend, I thought it would be fun to rank each of the usual starters' intro song choices. Keep in mind, I am ranking based on how the song plays in Gallagher as an intro song, not necessarily which song is the best musically. My ranking is definitive and 100% correct.

10. Monster by Kanye, et al (Dee): Rap doesn't do it for me, and I am unfamiliar with this song. It also does not play well on the stadium audio system.

9. Purple Lamborghini by Skrillex (Facundo): Similar to Dee's choice but a little more upbeat.

8. Halloween Theme (Landon): It is a cool idea, but does not come across great over the stadium audio. I had to hear it several times before I knew what it was. I also think it was Starocci's walk-out song.

7. The Ballad of Boot Hill by Johnny Cash (Sergio): Solid song, and I like that it goes with Sergio being from Arizona. However, it is a bit obscure and not super upbeat.

6. Country Boy Can Survive by Hank Jr. (Sprat): Of the ten songs, this one is the best. But as an intro song, it is just okay.

5. Ironman by Black Sabbath (Zach): Perhaps a bit of a safe choice, but I have nothing bad to say about it. It sounds good and gets people pumped up.

4. Many Men by 50 Cent (Casey): As I said, I'm not a rap guy, but this one sounds good in the arena, and the portion that plays fits Casey's persona well. Solid choice.

3. International Harvester by Craig Morgan (Doucet): This hurts me because the song is inferior to the other two country songs above, but as an intro song, I like it a lot. The tractor starting up is instantly recognizable, upbeat, and works great for a blue collar old school heavyweight like KD.

2. Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas (Cody): This was almost #1. Everyone knows it and loves it, its combat themed, and upbeat. It's also an original choice that very few others could pull off.

1. Funkytown by Lipps Inc. (Jax): Perfection. Nothing else to say.

Great topic, solid list!

Vega too low. It’s a great fit. Esoteric songs like that are the best. like Wyatt Sheets old tune Hays Country Nights. Unique, no one else has them. Can’t say “Oh, Starocci did that too.”

Funkytown as mentioned is perfect for Jax th new king of funk style! The song is from 1980!!! That makes it hilarious to me since he was born in the early 2000’s.

Having said that….. I’m apparently old and old fashioned. I am not a fan of turning college wrestling into MMA. I don’t really care for walkout songs and the delay. Let’s get out there and get after it! I understand that maybe it sells to a different generation and it is something i will just have to endure. Hardly anything that would keep me away or diminish my love for the sport and continued support….. just not my favorite!!

Now get off my lawn!!!

Hendrickson & Copperhead Road was an all-time banger.

Sinclair for Missouri came out to “Overtime” by ZB. That’s the main thing missing from the current OSU lineup. Of course it would have to be someone like Routledge. Gotta be an Okie Boy and Spratley, Lockett, and Doucett are accounted for.

My daughter and grandson went to their first matches last year and they are SOLD on Cowboy wrestling. Besides the product on the mats, they love the production and intro songs. I bet I heard king fu fighting 100 times on Saturday and Sunday morning from grandson’s iPod.

Lot of good songs for sure. As much as I hate to admit it I mightve (allegedly) had "Everyone was Kung fu fighting" come out of my mouth once or twice when we hit the car to drive home lol.

Speaking of intro songs, I remember walking into the Cowboy lounge area a few years ago (back when I was just a slightly bigger deal than I am currently) and seeing a paper on the counter where the wrestlers were writing down what they wanted for their walkout song. I was scanning the list and looked over at Dustin and said "East bound and down"? He just broke out into that big ol tooth missing grin! :ROFLMAO:

Funky is by far my favorite. It seems to match his personality and wrestling style. And like Jax, it’s non threatening but an absolute banger.
Like OP said… perfection for Jax
Plus it's cool how the lyrics describe his early departure from HS and move to Stillwater.

"Gotta make a move to a town that's right for me
Town to keep me movin', keep me groovin' with some energy

Well, I talk about it, talk about it, talk about it, talk about it
Talk about, talk about, talk about movin'
Gotta move on
Gotta move on
Gotta move on"

I know this. He’s definitely the original funk master. Loved watching Ben.

Jax is pretty funky himself.

id say that Vega is more funky than Jax, but Jax is Vegas with more offense.

I’m not gonna say either is to the level of Ben yet though when it comes to funk.

By the way, I’m in no way suggesting that we use that nickname for Jax. He will eventually get his own name I’m sure. I just think the song Funkytown fits him very well as a walkout song.
