Interesting quote from Fran

In today's Press-Citizen, Fran is quoted saying this: "We've got to fight defensively, and we've got to fight on the glass. There's a lot of different things that you can improve on, but at the end of the day you've got to defend and rebound."

Defend and rebound. Fight defensively. Fight on the glass. Yup. That's what most of us have been saying since Fran arrived in Iowa City. And now Fran himself has said those words in describing what the Hawkeyes must do to win, regardless of the opponent. We can only hope the Iowa players take their coach's words to heart and fight on defense and fight on the glass. Do that the rest of the way, and many good things are in store for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa is a tough team to figure out. I believe it was late in the first half when they showed the stat that OSU had 9 turnovers and Iowa 3. Iowa scored 9 points of the turnovers and OSU 0 but it was 1 point Iowa lead. Fast forward to the second half and it was like a different team came out of the locker room with Iowa getting up 15 at around the 16 minute mark. OSU is not a good team but it's the same team that dominated Iowa in Columbus.

Fran seems to have 0 patience for anything other than perfect execution on both ends and demonstrated it last night when he yanked Dix, Bowen, and Sandfort and went back to the starters. On one hand it's a little ridiculous to keep the starters on the floor up 18 with 3 minutes left but on the other there aren't any excuses for Bowen getting himself trapped on the sideline and Sandfort throwing wild passes.
