It was about scheduling but this was a part of the article near the end.

Let’s take a trip through time to Sept. 6, 2031 when Florida travels to Austin to face Texas.

As the Gators and Longhorns prepare to play, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey—yeah, he’s still there—and Big 12 commissioner Chris Del Conte (watching the game he signed as the Texas AD) quietly confer about a plan for the power conferences to merge their rights following the 2033–34 school year. That’s when the SEC’s deal with ESPN expires, and any non-ESPN bidder would be happy to buy out the last two years of the ACC’s ESPN deal. The goal is to force Disney/ESPN, FOX, Bleepblorp and anyone else who wants to bid to pay a premium for only a piece of the rights. Those will be split among several networks, as the NFL and NBA do. The only sticky wicket is the Pac-12, which still wants extra money to buy out its network. “Don’t worry,” Del Conte tells Sankey. “The Big 12 has a plan for our friends out west, just like they had a plan for us in 2010.”

The only thing is that will be nearly 20 years from now. It was barely 12 years ago that iPhones debuted. No telling what technology will be like that far into the future, and how people will consume tv/sports. I realize it was just a fluff piece, and. I admit I didn’t read it, I only read your post about it, but it is just too hard to predict how things will be.

Some of the story is fact regarding the schedules.
Fans don't want to watch their school/team demolish a FCS school by 50.
So a lot of schools are trying to schedule as many OOC P5 games. Think Georgia may end up playing 11.

The rest is hogwash.
But there is some truth beyond the ********. That is money isn't going to dry up and you probably will see conferences starting to negotiate with these streaming services for first tier rights.
Plus there will start being more divisons at the FBS level between P5 and G5 and maybe within the P5.

WVU is playing
P5 - 11 this year
2018 -11 (one was canceled due to storm),
2017 - 10 and a G5,
2016 - 11 P5
2015 - 10 and a G5.
2014 - 11
2013 - 10 and 1 G5
2012 - 10 and 1 G5

Since joining Big 12 WVU has not played a cotton candy schedule.

Plus WV for the most part plays decent FCS schools when they do.
Like James Madison. Don't know how good they will be with their new coach but they usually are a decent team that plays in the playoffs.

You know how some people claim they are helping FCS schools out by scheduling them.
I wonder why no one wants to help out North Dakota State

Some of these schools are playing schools that get blown out on the FCS level.

WVU future schedules

2019
2020
2021
2022
2023
2024
So no one can claim WVU isn't playing a tough schedule --11 P5s per year is a killer schedule. 12 if they can win the BIG 12 and get to a CCG--plus then a bowl or playoff makes even more.

TCU believes they need to play SMU

SMU has been passed up. No reason to schedule them every year.
But Ft Worth will always be inferior to Dallas because Ft Worth is so slow that you will see a panther sleeping on the street undistributed.

Similar in away to West Virginia and Pitt

But you will see Lexus and a few mid grade BMW and Mercedes in the parking lot at TCU
At SMU will see nothing but top end Mercedes and BMWs.

The collective mentality of the SEC West has made Texas their enemy. Only school Texas remotely gets along with is Ole Miss mainly because 20-30% of their students are from Texas.
I guess the animosity has spread Eastward. SEC East is saying they would rather play Texas than aggy. The next 5 years Texas will play the SEC West.
West Virginia has the same idea on their schedules .Most of these schools are wanting big time opponents to sell tickets and the television companies are promoting it.
Surprised West Virginia isn't trying to play Kentucky. The SEC needs games right now to negotiate their first tier television rights.
