Incompetent NCHSAA

On the eve of the NC high school football championship games, and after waiting to see other responses, we felt we must comment on the completely asinine scheduling of games chosen by the NCHSAA.
Who in their right mind puts high school students on the road in the middle of the night on a weekday school night with Friday obligations?
Same question for forcing parents to chose between work obligations and being present at their child’s biggest event in their young lives?

What are you doing?!

Commissioner Que Tucker’s weak attempt at an explanation on Monday was typical nonsense. And she said she received little pushback. We doubt that and her expecting it proves she knew it was a poor decision.

Somewhere between beholding to television, venue availability, overlapping games, and just how busy the NCHSAA staff is, North Carolina students and families and their safety and livelihoods took a back seat.

The Friday afternoon games are super inconvenient, also.
Time off of work and schools shutting down for the day to travel makes no sense.
And you have them headed in to congested areas during the holidays.

You have three venues. And eight games.
Play 3 on Friday night ( as all are used to).
Play 5 on Saturday across three venues.
All are televised and can be recorded/replayed.
Overlapping means nothing. You have done that for years. Common sense scheduling takes priority, for students and parents.
Not television.

A child could figure this out better.

Do a better job of obtaining venues far ahead of time. You know the set up for the next three years.

High school football is the biggest revenue producer and gains the largest student and fan participation of any extracurricular events.
Yet the NCHSAA treats the playoff set up as though it is as malleable as a church dinner.
The staff at the NCHSAA has never shown the ability or expertise to handle such an important occasion.

We were part of this insanity in 1998.
Forced to play our Championship Game on Thursday night because UNC had to play basketball on Saturday, we hammered the NCHSAA for placing programs, students, families and communities in woefully unsafe and impractical circumstances.
Our complaints were printed in the Charlotte Observer.
So 27 years later the knuckleheads assume it is okay to go there again.

It is not.
As someone else posted , once again the NCHSAA has failed the very people it exists to serve and protect.

Finally, something we agree on 100 percent. The NCHSAA is a complete farce. It's a joke. The leadership might as well be clowns.

How did they come up with this nonsense? Why is that old lady in charge of anything related to football?

Killing these kids and parents for ignorant reasons. If you all decide to complain again. Count me in and I beleive we'd all rally against these mess..

WHAT A JOKE THE NCHSAA IS..........

Bombard them.
They read here.

Robbinsville on Thursday at 4.
5 hour drive…both ways.

Watauga on Friday at 4
3 hour drive…both ways

You can’t make this up.

And they could have easily played 1A and 8A games last Saturday.

And those drive times are minimums. If Watauga hits traffic in Winston or greensboro, youre adding an hour or more to that commute. I was very disappointed to see we got the 4pm Friday game. I cant go because of work related projects. The state could do better .

ALWAYS - Follow the money. There is a reason they have been getting away with it for so long. I promise you the answer is not "what they do for student athletes". They all might as well be in Washington. They are cut from the same cloth. 8 Championships and playoffs with increasing ticket prices for each round. Lower rent stadiums for the 8 championship games. Do the basic math. Follow the money.

SIDE NOTE: We get on here and raise hell to each other about our teams and opponents like it's War but they get rich off the popularity our dedication and support creates. They love us. I promise you they love this site, they read it, they profit off of it in the long run.

Yeah I don't know why Hickory wasn't site for 6A and 8A given the teams involved.

Maybe youre in better position to take up for your neighbors instead for better optics, because word on the streets of 3A/4A is they fudge numbers.
Let's hope that is a misprint. 550 student increase at Shelby for one year is wild. That would put them in 6A this year if I am thinking correct at 1300+. What I know about Shelby's actual numbers yearly, that sounds way off.

I hope those greedy clowns do read it. They’re pitiful. That old lady needs to get to stepping.

There’s got to be a better way. 16 dollars to get into Hickory and they don’t do anything for no one but themselves.

CLOWNS.

Get to use the UNC and LR facility for free , and get the concession monies , what a joke
Money grab it has always been
Wait until next year when that 5% across the board raise for all referees kick in
Schools have no options but to raise ticket prices
You will see $20-$25 ticket prices for regular season games , book it
Just pathetic and embarrassing

If High Schools ever get to the point they have to charge $20 dollars for a football ticket for a community based, tax funded school, we might as well shut it down. HS programs already have an attendance problem as a whole. Sure we need to pressure the NCHSAA to make wise decisions with our money, but we also have to figure out how to expand the draw of our schools. I would speculate Crest doesn't have a big issue with attendance this year or most, but you are not the norm. It has to start with school systems caring enough to support competitive football. Again, CC has done a great job with this, but Gaston county not so much. Every school and school system needs to focus on how to fill their stadiums every Friday night. If you can increase the attendance you can lower the cost of tickets and increase concession sales. The days of just people flocking to a stadium because its the only thing to do is over. Schools have to change with the times. Heck, every town with a struggling HS football attendance program has at least a used car lot and a dentist office putting in 10x more work in advertising and marketing than your local HS. Changes need to be made.
