Would you entertain a serious offer from USC? Bob and staff seems to have an inroad with the California pipeline. Maybe the best pipeline to have in the nation, certainly in the top three. I have been to the USC boards and they are calling for a big time hire and willing to throw the money behind it.

Reading this board and others a lot of posters think he's run his course. (Not Me). USC has so many things that can be offered to attract a big timer. I think it's a better job than the Florida job Bob turned down twice.

Just something to discuss.............

Well, intriguing as that is, I don't think Bob would entertain coaching another college.
Pro maybe, not college.

While Stoops isn't a has been necessarily, he isn't exactly new young talent which is what the USC theme seems to be. Seems to me that they'd go after someone hot like Utah's head football coach rather than someone like Stoops.

You darn youngsters.....They need to go after Bill Snyder....HA

Whittingham (sp) from Utah seems to be the flavor of the day on the USC board. Fuentes gets a few mentions along with the same old tired pro coaches every team mentions. They might as well root for Lombardi....;)

If the quesstion is, "would i entertain the offer", well then, sure.

But he's smart enough to know that he'll face the same scrutiny there as he does here if he doesn't win big and fast.

The coaching in the PAC is as good as anywhere right now and the competition stiffer.

Yep. And that's why I think the NFL is in Bob's future if he wants to keep coaching after OU. And, I think it has something to do with a big contract he might be able to negotiate. Bob has said that he didn't see himself coaching into old age, didn't he? I think so.

I admit to being critical of Coach Stoops (only for all the excuses) but hope he stays and gets our program turned around and retires a Sooner.

I agree with fitty that Stoops ain't going anywhere and is not interested in moving on from Norman. Besides, he gets thrown under the bus quite regularly by the media, fans, etc. Although he may not be on the proverbial "hot seat," he no longer has the mystique and respect that he once had as a premier coach and not many programs would want him anyway. At least, that's what I keep hearing out here in SEC/ACC country.

Why would he move? He has a great job now where he isn't held accountable. Why move to a new place where they will hold you accountable for your results and decisions...

Plus, he'd have to recruit there and constantly be expected to land 5-stars and that is not his strong suit. He'd rather not chase very hard and hope to develop 2 and 3 star players.

Bob would have no problems with recruiting in Cali. Probably land a top 5 class annually. He does a damn good job bringing top flight west coast talent to fly over Oklahoma.

I'm not greatly concerned with our recruiting but I'd like to see us pick up a top 5 ranked DT and DE, as well as linebackers. We've had great success landing highly regarded RBs, WRs, QBs and DBs (though our success rate at turning them into all americans has been lacking).

We need a game changing defensive player the likes of Roy Williams/Tommie Harris/Curtis Loftin/Derrick Strait/Rocky Calmus/Gerald McCoy. IMO, that's when things took a down turn. We used to have a handful of those guys every season. Despite the occasional hiccup, we consistently have an explosive offense, but the difference, in my mind, is having a defense that can change the game with big plays and consistent stops. We've got one for sure in Eric Striker and a few other guys have that potential, but we don't attack like we used too. Sitting back waiting to see what the offense comes at you with isn't likely to put our boys in positions to create turnovers or negative plays.

In this day and age of the Big XII, I see no reason not to be aggressive. Teams are going to score on you whether they're beating you with big plays or if you're sitting back and letting them dink and dunk you down the field. I feel like our style of defense is to limit them from potentially lighting up the scoreboard and then hoping we outscore them. We need to be pinning our ears back and going for the kill. If we get beat over the top from time to time, oh well. Better than giving them a free pass into the redzone and then hoping we can limit our chances to a coin flip.

We've had incredible offensive success in the Stoops era, but when we dominated the Big XII it was done with defenses that played pissed off and aggressive from the first snap. That was the Stoops Brothers style, and I think until they quit coaching with the fear that everybody is going to drop 50 on us, we'll continue to see above average success but rarely anything to show for it.

Bob. Mike. Hand the Mary Kay and handbags back the ladies, reach down and grab hold of your gonads and repeat after me, "The Big XII is our conference and we're gonna take it back by force!".

USC is a recruiter itself. SoCal kids want to go to USC regardless of the coach.

Yep, SC is blessed with one of the biggest home field advantages going, recruiting wise.

You get the right coach in there, like your John Robinson, Pete Carroll...you compete for national titles every five or six years. It's not even fair really.

I believe his sons are sophomores and playing football in Norman. He's not going anywhere.

Yep, you're right, Bob would forfeit his entire nut of 15 million to keep from uprooting his tykes from that which they are familiar with...and good for him.
I like that.
His ducks are alright with me.:D

Then again, I'm a dinosaur, what do I know. How am I relevant...
