2/3 of the way done and things are about to get spicy for the middle tier of the ICE. Lots of much games with playoff implications coming up. Could we see 5 in the playoffs?

Braidwood (3-3) @ Herscher (4-2) - GOTW! Braidwood has to have this one to get in the playoffs. Herscher kind of needs this one, as Peotone is not a gimme and that should be a close one as well. Braidwood lost to Manteno and Herscher beat them, however both were close game and I bet if they played 10 times the results would be all over the place. I think that Herscher is just a small step above the Comets and they will come ready to win. Tigers 28 RC 24

Coal City (5-1) @ Peotone (3-3) - Should not be a challenge for CC. They win with ease. CC just licking their chops for week 9. CC 45 Tone 7

Streator (1-5) @ Wilmington (5-1) - Wilmo licking their chops for week 9 as well. They score as many as they want this week. Wilmo 49 Streator 6

Manteno (3-3) @ Gibson-City (5-1) - I think this could be game of the week if not for the RC game. This will put pressure on teno to win out the last two weeks and one of which will be the Route 50 Rumble. I just don't see Manteno who lost to Herscher and barely beat RC beating a GC team who seems to be having success although I do not know how tough that conference is a whole. Give me GCMS in a close one GC 35 Teno 28

Braidwood @ Herscher looks like a literal coin flip. Massey has R-C as 2 point favorites 28-26, but I’ll take the Tigers to pull off a win at home. I guess. This one is tough. Ask me tomorrow and I’ll change my pick. This is basically a playoff game for R-C.

Manteno is reeling after b2b games vs Wilmo and CC. Things get a little bit easier, but not easy @ a perennially strong (albeit smaller enrollment) GCMS. GCMS is 5-1. They got smacked by EL Paso-Gridley who is undefeated, but otherwise have handled their business. I’ll take GCMS by 14.

Coal City and Wilmo will both win by running clock.

RC vs Herscher: Comets have been playing well. Tigers are at home. Got a feeling the Comets are going to come to play in this one. I like the Comets 28 Tigers 14.

Coal City rolls big but I think the Blue Devils will be able to move the ball on the Coalers. Might keep the clock from running at least for a little while. I’ll take Coalers 42 Blue Devils 14

Manteno needs this win big time. I just don’t see it happening. I’ll take GCMS out physically the Panthers to a 28-20 game.

Wilmington will have the clocks running running early in this one. Feel bad for Streator. They had a chance last week to knock off Herscher and couldn’t get it done. Now that are up against the most physical team in the conference. Because Wilmington is a class act I’ll take the Cats 49-0.

Wilmo and CC both win BIG 💪

R-C at Herscher - The Comets got a big shot in the arm last week beating Peotone with no time left and I think that momentum carries them to victory over the Tigers. R-C 27 Herscher 21.

Manteno at GCMS - The Falcons are eyeing their own Week 9 showdown with undefeated Ridgeview and the Panthers to me have been a disappointment in 2025. GCMS 34 Manteno 13

GCMS is solid program but the HOIS isnt the ICE. I think Manteno gets back on track but it wont be a cakewalk by any means.

Wilmington - have the run game going well and Streator struggling

Coal City - not sure what to make of Peotone right now but know exactly what Coal City is right now.

GCMS - I love Hoi and ICE Matchups! Manteno is really struggling right now, GCMS is good but not great.

Herscher - truly a flip of the coin. This time it came up Herscher.

Take away Wilmo & CC and what exactly is the ICE? This conference is bad and won't be around in 3-5 years

I never really thought about it until Lisle cancelled their varsity season, but I guess I could see the conference changing in big ways.

It was discussed earlier this year about Coal City being the only school in the league that isn’t shrinking. With them having to compete in 4A football (and potentially moving up a class eventually in the other sports) I’m not sure the conference is a great fit in a competitive sense for them anymore.

Its quickly turning in to a 3A/2A conference. Only thing that makes sense is distance

But they are in the ICE and the physicality of those teams is something you dont see in the HOIC thus my comment about the HOIC not being the ICE.

HOIC plays a pretty good brand of football. Tri-Valley has given Wilmo trouble in the past. One thing Manteno has NOT been recently is very physical. I think GCMS will beat them unless they really can put it back together quickly.

If Braidwood looks at the second half offense they played against the Tone and continue that philosophy then I think they will beat Herscher. If they decide to Braidwood it up then they will lose. I am going Braidwood in a close one

R-C misses a FG at the half time buzzer. They have moved the ball well, but are losing 7-0 at the half.

Wilmo also missed a FG at the end of the half. Up 23-0. Not a ton of energy tonight. Kinda weird game.

Wilmo 2nd safety of the night. Streator cannot snap it to their punter. Wilmo up 32-0. They should go for 2 on the next score.

Wilmo beat Streator 45-0.

CC was up big on Peotone.

Still awaiting a score from Manteno / GCMS. Last I heard, Manteno was winning.

Looks like Manteno is up 35-13. Good for them. I didn't have a lot of faith in them.

Though not likely I wouldn't count a 4-5 RC out of the playoffs just yet. Showing they currently have 32 playoff points and a few more will likely be added once everything from tonight is tallied up. They will likely have close to 42-45 playoff points after week 9, which could be enough depending on how many 4-5 teams are needed to complete the field and how many playoff points everyone has.

Maybe...

Their non con game vs EPG really helps, but Harvard and the Lisle forfeit really hurt. I'd be shocked if they have enough to get in.

Outside chance for 5 teams to get in.

Wilmo, CC, and Herscher (5-2) are in.

Manteno (4-3) needs one more W and have Peotone and Streator left.

Peotone (3-4) needs to sweep Manteno and Herscher.

Reed-Custer (3-4) would need to pull off the upset of the year next week.
