Great man and great coach even though he pisses most of us off at times he’s the best head coach Iowa has had IMHO

I have gone through the tail end of Evy, Burns, X,Commings Lauterbur (thinks thats all of them) FRY and FERENTZ. I feel so fortunate to have lived through the last two. Grumbled at times times, frustrated at times you bet BUT two great coaches who represented their University so well and were loved by the players as they truned out better persons. Will never forget HF victory ver Nebby 13-9,KF Stanzi to McNutt and Icould go on on. People may not realize it as how fortunate Iowa was to have these last two coaches. Thank you Jersey.I will end my lecture here and go on with my day.
Look out, here come the "oh theres Kirk crying like a baby" crowd again. Anyone see the presser with Graves after the game. He was breaking down so hard he could barely go on. Sure alot was to do with the birth of his son, but he was just as touched by his connection to his coach, and the support of his team mates and being the final regular season game with those he has fought with for 4 years. Maybe he's just not a tough guy.
Nagel, how could I forget lol. That 10-7 game, we were in the NE corner and as Iowa got the ball ball back with a minute to go or so and Nebby could not call time out the stands were shaking-great memory. Oh yea, I forgot about Longs naked boot leg right in front of us vrs. MSU. Very fortunate to have seen those games. Thanks 83, memory slipping a little!

And surely you must realize almost every team in every sport says they love their coach, and he (or she) is the greatest person in the world, right? This is nothing unique to KF or to Iowa.
That fast fight song is, at least, the fight song. I hate, despise and abhor the use of "In Heaven There is No Beer" when we should be hearing the "Iowa Fight Song."
Again, you can find similar videos from every other football program in the country. It's cool, but it's hardly unique to Iowa or to KF. Not even close.
Indeed. Many younger Iowa fans have no idea just how awful Iowa football was in the 60s and 70s. A lot of very, very bad teams.

I am right with you age-wise. I was 6 or 7 when me and my siblings were playing and heard my Mom screaming and yelling and we rushed upstairs and she was watching the 1957 rose bowl. I barely knew football but in two years I had been to Kinnick and I was watching the 1959 Rose Bowl with her.
I was hooked by the visit to Kinnick early on with my parents. Iirc the hawks played NWestern.
We have had some great football to watch under Fry and Ferentz.
Yes, Ray Nagel and what might have happened if the Black Players Boycott hadnt have happened. Iirc Nagel had a .500 record in one season during the really bad 20 years of hawk football and a good team coming back but Wham some players didnt play.

Ray Nagel's name does not belong on any list of mediocre coaches:
Nagel, the onetime UCLA quarterback and later the AD for Washington State, was a really good coach. He was wrangled into an unworkable, unnecessary set of cross currents ... with some un-Iowa like political maneuvering.
Here is what his 1968 (and everyone's favorite radio announcer, Eddie Podolak) team achieved:
The 1968 Hawkeyes broke twenty school and conference offensive records. They broke the Big Ten season scoring record with 256 points in conference games, as well as the record for total offense with a 482 yards per game average. The Hawks smashed Michigan's record of 34.5 points per game in conference play in 1943 by averaging 36.6 points per game. The 1968 Hawks became the highest scoring team in school history, breaking the mark set by the 1900 Hawkeyes. Although Iowa did not have a winning record for a seventh consecutive year, going 5–5 on the season, Iowa's four conference wins were the most for Iowa since 1960. Most Hawkeye fans felt that the team had turned a corner and were expecting big things in 1969, since Iowa had only five senior starters in 1968.

I was there for the win v. Nebraska 10-7. Just shocked that an Iowa team could compete, let alone beat the Cornhuskers. We "Hucked the Fuskers!"
I might have been sitting next to you in the NE stands on Long's bootleg. I swear I was the first one in the stadium to see that he still had the ball and was going to score easily.

Thats crazy,because I remember seeing Long with the ball also before he raised it up so officials could seee it. Must have been close to each other! You must be a young guy as well! lol

Two things I remember from the celebration downtown at the Fieldhouse after the game. 1) We never seemed to get tired of yelling "Huck the Fuskers!". And 2) There were a bunch of cool Nebraska fans there partying with us - they're not all bad!
