You can go ahead and scratch off sports until a vaccine is discovered, tested, and released in mass, or a treatment or current drug is found to make it not life threatening.

Yeah. If one player gets the virus, he'll infect half the team before they know it. The last 1 or 2 teams they've played before it's discovered will have been exposed to it too. And it will exponentially expand from there. And that doesn't even begin to consider cramming 60,000 people into a confined space for 4 hours.

whats it matter? Bama is going to claim the 2020/2021 national title regardless if the season is played or not.

I think Herbstreit and the most of posters here under-estimate a few things.

1. Modern medicine combined with American ingenuity. We’ll find a way to treat this virus and significantly decrease the death/hospitilazation rate before the summer is over. We may not have a vaccine for another year or so, but we’ll have a way to treat it and reduce the affect it is having on our way of life sooner rather than later.

2. America’s complete lack of patience. Give this “epidemic” another two weeks and folks will be done with the “quarantine life”. As more tests become available and we realize the death rate is much lower than what is being thrown around now, more people will be willing to take their chances and get back to a normal life.

3. Trump and his staff’s desire for America’s economy to stabilize before we get to the 2020 election. This administration is not going to watch America crumble economically because of this virus and the squawking of the national media.

There may not be football this fall, but I’ll be absolutely shocked if that is the case. Yes, COVID-19 is a concern, but for the majority of the American population, it’s not a serious threat to life. At some point, this panic will pass and we’ll get back to normal life, hopefully with better hygiene practices because of this scare.

I hope your right BEL, no football in the fall is pretty hard to imagine. But I guess it’s not much harder than there isn’t a baseball game to watch right now. I got a kid playing Juco baseball, and it’s like you have killed his puppy.

2 and 3 will be the main reasons.

Longtime lurker, first time poster... I figure I'll get in at the bottom, rather than during the coaching hires. And really its not like I have **** else to do for the next few weeks.

I wish I had the confidence in this situation that you do. A fall without football, would be like a... fall without football. And while I do think within 9-12 months there is enough safety measures in place to go about a somewhat normal life, I dont see us, as a society, being able to gather in a stadium. I think a trusted vaccine is further out and the idea of getting large groups of people for the next year just isnt feasible. Dont get me wrong, I think there will still be some large gatherings in the meantime, but theyll be limited. And all it takes is one bad outbreak and whole portions of the country are back in quarantine. We'll get through it, but I think regular large scale events are off the schedule for the foreseeable future. I hope Im wrong. I'll be glad to be wrong, but thats what I see in the next few months.

It is just fear porn. Experts are used to giving their opinion on their narrow area of expertise, when they can no longer pontificate in their area, they start being experts on issues they have no expertise in.

We will have football in the fall. The death rate of this will settle out to be less than .5%, (probably much less) for healthy people, people will accept the risk.

Please throw 1-2 names in a reply of family members or close friends you’re willing to sacrifice so you can watch football fall.

Do you realize how many people die from the flu (34k last year, 61k the year before)? Many, many more people will die of the flu this year than COVID-19. Don't be dumb.
