I have never seen a guy tank so hard so quickly.

Mac was dealing and then in an instant he completely lost control.

Mac cannot put together 6 solid innings on a consistent basis. It may be mental or it may be mechanical. Fox hall has to solve that. Certainly it isn’t because a team starts hitting him; usually it is because he cannot throw a strike. Baffling. He seems to always find that 25+ pitch inning.

Zone was completely different in the 4th. Same stuff as the 3rd but . . .

All 4 FBs he threw the first two batters of that inning to make the count 2-0 were balls. They all missed up and out. He let that inning get out of control because he couldn't control his FB early in the count.

The quickest way to screw yourself as a pitcher is miss early, especially in high school and college, with FB. Because they aren't backing up 2-0 counts throwing curves and change ups. You give the batter a decisive advantage and that's what MacLeod allowed to happen by going 2-0 on the first two batters of the 4th and not mentally being able to make an adjustment.

If we’re being honest, our entire starting pitching just has to be better. I may be wrong, but I think that’s something like 4 of the last 6 weekend games where our starting pitcher couldn’t get through 4 innings

Starting pitching has definitely not been the strength we expected. Still pretty good, just had high expectations.

Yep. We’re 3rd in the league in ERA....which is pretty damn good, but not nearly good enough to overcome our extreme deficiencies at the plate and in the field when going up against teams like Vandy and Arkansas.

We also thought Macleod and Bednar were both going to give us really solid outings on 80% of weekends, and that just hasn’t happened. Combine that with Cerantola not being able to seize that Sunday role and you have expectations not quite met for the group.

Right, and in SEC play, CM, Bednar, and Fristoe are a combined 4.85 if my math is correct. It’s not awful, but far from what we need and were expecting out of those guys
