Heard that. Wasn't thinking he was a candidate for transfer, but now I think he might be. He was looking to be our second most experienced returning player behind Gabriel, so if he and Briscoe leave, we will be Gabriel and all new players. I hope that isn't the case.

I see the kids point on one hand. He's been and being recruited over. At the same time depth is important and he has some skills that can help. I'd hate to lose him we need experience to sprinkle in with youth.

Yeah not really a story . He thought he would go pro after this season but he hasn't lived up to his expectations so I bet he goes thru the pre draft process and either comes back here or transfers.I want him back but lets be honest with Bamba and Richard ( both lottery picks next season ) he is going to be the 3rd string center. What he does or doesn't do isn't going to win or lose many if any games for us . I love this kid though and hope he is back .

He would be behind Richards and hopefully Bamba next year. If SKJ stays, Humphries would eventually be behind him also. However, I hope he stays and I think he will.

Why even ask those questions to Humphries at this time? I'm assuming he was asked and he didn't just randomly bring this stuff up.

Are there no other questions relevant to the tournament to ask him? Just strange.

I hope this is just typical media bull ****. But if it isn't, he shouldn't step foot on the floor period.

What makes you think Gabriel will be here next year? I know you will bring up his stats and his slower progression (than others) but I'm not banking on him being back. However, I would certainly welcome his return.

Non story. He sounds like someone that is disappointed in himself. That is all.

He's actually made a couple big jump shots and has looked better in my opinion the last few games.

some fans just refuse to grasp the fact that he would be the 3rd center in the rotation next year behind bamba and richards. instead they have convinced themselves bamba can play PF which he 100% cant and wont.

have felt for some time now humphries transferring or red shirting is the most likely outcome for next season.

Maybe another Gonzaga candidate where he could possibly start....

of course he was asked - they all ask our guys this every year
it's SOP for him to explore options - ALL our players do
I read it more that he has to figure out what went "wrong" and what to do to fix it for next year -maybe wishful thinking on my part? He actually reminds me a lot of Derek HIS sophomore year. Has the ability, but not the right mind set

Completely written out of context to add distraction to the tournament. I'm curious about where this "journalist" is from (edit: research shows he's from Oklahoma and was most-recently the OU newspaper's editor in chief). As someone above said, this was just Hump expressing frustration with where he wanted to be, performance-wise, to where he thinks he is. I got nothing from his statements that leads me to believe he is even considering leaving/transferring.

But hey, that's what "journalism" is about these days - throw vague statements / quotes in an article that's laced with leading readers into believing there might be "more to it" in an effort to generate "clicks" and "things that make you go, hmmmmm".

I just think it's odd to ask a player what his plans are after the season, when the biggest stretch of the season is getting ready to begin. Also, I haven't seen any other other postseason plans questions asked of Bam, Fox, Briscoe, Gabriel, etc. posted here. I agree that asking players those types of questions before the season or after the season make sense, but literally asking the day the tournament starts? Strange to me.

I thought the comments sounded a lot like someone who was seriously considering leaving and if that is his ultimate choice, that would be his decision but at the end of the day I don't know why the question couldn't have been asked when the season is actually over.

Joe Musatto has been covering UK sports for SEC Country for those that do not know. He *I think* was assigned to UK sports back in the fall and followed the football program and has been on the basketball beat as well. Just to clarify the source of the story.

Quit acting like all of these recruits are sure fire things and we don't need any experienced players to step up.

"Hawkins is a nice little in state kid, but the Harrison's and Young will take all of those minute" Where would we have been in the 2014 tourney, Louisville game in 2015, or down the stretch this season without him?

"Why on Earth wouldn't Willis transfer, we have Skal/Lee/Hump/Poy all ahead of him" Man we sure have needed his shooting the last two seasons to fill in up front. And man, 4 years has really made him a decent rebounder/shot-blocker. Think what he added once we realized Skal was a bust.

"I don't blame Lee for leaving. Our frontcourt is so stacked we don't need him at all, our rebounding will be just fine" Man, we sure could use him to block shots and play some defense this month in March.

Point is...Hump has a lot of potential and skill. He's the age of a Freshman right now. Just think what another offseason of practice and weightlifting/conditioning will do for him. Oh, and he's 7'foot. These kids coming in next year could be busts, why throw away a decent kid for potential?

Matt jones reporting comments from Joe Musatto per this story:

https://www.seccountry.com/kentucky/kentucky-basketball-isaac-humphries-weigh-future-options

Shocking comments before a tournament game... Thoughts?

I don't know what is shocking. It is painfully obvious that he hasn't improved other than getting a little stronger. He needs to think about going where he can play and develop
Worked out pretty goood for KW.
He is not going to play meaningful minutes here

Having been interviewed several times in my life NOTHING ever gets written down the way it was communicated. This tournament is a great opportunity for Humphries to make a statement that he can build on for next year. I would focus on the positive with what lies ahead.

HA I laugh at a lot of statements. I hope they are not quoted correctly.

...“Get comfortable again,” he said. “Find my skin again and just start all over.”

I've got some breaking news for everyone. You can start all over today. No need to wait until next season. Do it NOW. (Not knocking the preparation aspect or over summer training) but the mind-set of waiting to "start all over" is the wrong premise to begin with. Do it NOW! Go CATS!!!!:uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi:

He's from Oklahoma University, and for the record, Tipton has been covering UK sports forever, but we all know how he is...so just because a guy "covers" UK stuff doesn't mean his articles are going to always be presented with a pro-UK slant. I think this article is a bit questionable from its approach in that he's purposely laid out Hump's quotes so as to leave it up to the reader to decipher what it might mean. But he's also added a few of his own "structures" to the article so as to attempt to lead the reader down the path of "uh oh, does this mean he's thinking about transferring!" or "uh oh, turmoil going into the tournament!".

If he were truly pro-UK, he'd have structured the article much differently, or hell, not even asked the questions or written an article at all. Instead, he chose some odd context and odd timing to both ask the question, and publish the article around quoted answers to questions that were most likely leading in nature.

Odd timing
Odd that Humphries would be the focus of a "journalist" questions about this right now.
They're all looking to drum up distraction stories at this time of the year. I'm sure this "journalist" went in to the Q&A session knowing full well what his intent was - to get quotes for an article meant to drum up speculation (and clicks) on the current mental state of players as they are going into the NCAAT. And it just so happens that Kentucky is more susceptible to speculation given the massive annual turnover in players and recruits.

With that said, all one has to do is look at Cal's years at UK and his track record with transfers. How many have there been? I can only recall these to have left under Cal's watch:

Marcus Lee
Kyle Wiltjer
Darnell Dodson (left the year Cal was coming in?)
Stacey Poole
Ryan Harrow
Charles Matthews

In contrast, Tubby had WAY more transfers out of the program than probably any coach in UK history (including four in one year, TWICE!):

Myron Anthony (98-99)
Desmon Allison (99-00)
Michael Bradley (99-00)
Ryan Hogan (99-00)
Nate Knight (99-00)
Jason Parker (00-01)
Rashaad Carruth (01-02)
Adam Chiles (01-02)
Cory Sears (01-02)
Marvin Stone (01-02)
Bernard Cote (03-04)
Shagari Alleyne (05-06)
Rekalin Sims (05-06)
Adam Williams (05-06)

And of course good ole BCG who had two straight years of 4 transfers each:

Mark Coury (07-08)
Derrick Jasper (07-08)
Alex Legion (07-08)
Morakinyo Williams (07-08)
Kevin Galloway (08-09)
Mark Halsell (08-09)
Landon Slone (08-09)
AJ Steward (08-09)

So obviously Calipari has done better with keeping players around, even in light of having so many of them being recruited over. So this is why we should take caution in articles like this that are meant to drive speculation and "worry", and look at history. Hump would be a fool to leave - just ask Josh Harrelson.

Sounds like he has no confidence and it shows with his play. It's a bad place to be. He's got one foot out the door (cause the grass is always greener).

Maybe Lee can transfer back to take his place.

The kid was probably asked about his season and just expounded on it.

I hope Humphries sticks it out. We bemoan the fact we are too young every year. We need players like this and others, to be honest, who are great role players and provide stability to the program. Humphries has a role, IMO. He just needs to grow into it. And it he obviously needs much more confidence.

I completely agree. There's no reason to ask him these questions right now. There's no real reason to interview hump at this point honestly except to dig up a story. I was just explaining that the guy has been around the guys and the program and its not a fly by night story.

P_ss on journalists...sorry but they earned it...
But. Why does KSR have to put it up? It is basically the same premise as not linking "Tipton stories" here.
Looks like KSR trying to get hits on the backs of nervous BBN fans And it's working.
