How the final 4 stack up talent wise

With all the N coming portal and new class that might be a tough one to figure. One 5 star and many the rest 3- and 4-star guys.
In the portal rankings I noticed our new 5* ranks barely ahead of the walk-on at his position who left?

How does our roster compare?
Next year with the portal additions we will have three 5*'s on our roster. I can say with certainty in the modern recruiting era we have never had that

Raiola
Prichett
Nwaneri

I believe Carter Nelson was a 5^ in a place or two as well

Some think we are close

Maybe as close as next year

I’m curious what the numbers look like
LOL we are a long ways from these teams. We might be close to winning 8 games, we might even be close to a Boise level of athleticism, but we are nowhere close to playing at the level of these 4 teams.

I think it's completely useless to compare star power when we have seen results on the field all year long. Ohio State is the favorite for sure. Though I think Texas is just behind them in terms of raw talent. And then Notre Dame and Penn State are just two hard-nosed and well-disciplined football teams with plenty of talent who can certainly win a championship if OSU or Texas don't bring their A-game.

That’s just one example of why the portal rankings are crap. Meaningless.

Best predictors of portal entry success:
How many gameday plays have they been on the field?
How well did they play when on the field?
What was the level of competition?

Last question is not as important as the first two.

So worthless to not even be mentioned: how many stars from HS. Future NFL talent does tend to come from 4 and 5 stars. But there are still a lot of flat-out college busts that were 4 and 5 stars, and they tend to be in the portal.

one thing is for sure - the teams that win at a high level consistently pull in more 4/5 stars than 3 stars

You need to recruit monsters to take down monsters. I'm so glad to see us finally trying to be like Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan instead of Iowa and Minnesota.

Goes to show, “Coaching Matters” even with the “Jimmy and Joes.”
The transfer portal and recent recruiting classes definitely put our talent level closer to where it needs to be. Hopefully we see the play on the field follow next year.

When Rhule is all done Penn State is what this team should look like. Only thing is our Edge recruiting because Penn State has NFL Edge Players and I mean top 7 pick players.

Someone did the numbers. Didn't fact check so take it FWIW

An even more telling stat than stars is the estimated amount of NFL players on each Team. Between OSU and Texas, there will be 21 future NFL players on the field. Stars may translate to some of that, but development is a big contributor also.

If we land a competent ST coach like Ekeler that is worth at least 2 to 3 more wins right there. 7 wins to a 9 or 10 win season.
Nothing else can go backwards for that to happen. Turnovers were vastly improved last year - however, our ST’s were garbage and offset gains made.

Must improve in all facets and take giant leaps in O and ST’s. I’m confident in the offensive step given the portal activity, Raiola year 2 and most important … DH.

Anxious to see the ST coach and a competent long snapper.

Our redzone offense was arguably worse than our special teams

Comfortably outside the top 100 nationally in redzone TD%

We desperately need that running game Rhule has been promising since his introductory presser.

Have done very little to address it thus far in the offseason, unfortunately.

Ohio State with the most star power. No reason they shouldn't win it all. Unless Ryan Day does Ryan Day stuff.

But stars don’t matter, recruiting rankings are fake news and I’m not impressed and blah blah blah. Wait a minute, so teams that bring in highly recruited talent year after year are better positioned to succeed?
