Knock off Duke and Villanova in consecutive games.

I'm happy for St Johns as they were my team as a kid and with Simon back - these guys can ball.

Watched the end of the Nova game and St Johns was ice at the free throw line knocking em all down.

Mullin's gonna get an extension.....:)

Yeah, holy cow! A couple of amazing games.

And now I think the Hoos slide into #1 after they recovered and beat Florida State tonight...

Mullin and his staff have brought in a fair amount of talent over the years. The problem is that they have had a fair amount of talent transfer out of the program. There has also been speculation that Mullin treats the kids like pros, and that the kids have not responded accordingly.

It will be interesting to see if they can keep the roster together next season. Does Lovett - who has been injured all year, and has had his ups and downs - return, does Ponds return (I believe he should), does Yakwe finally reach his potential. Lots of ifs. They have a nice recruiting class that has the potential to add another top flight big man this Spring.

If things go thier way they could be very good next season.

IIRC, Eddie Jordan beat Wisconsin the year they went to the final 4. The jury is still out on Mullen.

It's February----teams are tired----especially teams with short benches like SHU and Nova is my take on it.

1-11 in the conference, and Nova has two guys hurt. And I hate the Johnnies, game at garden still pisses me off.

Watched St. Johns play Xavier and go 10 minutes in the 2nd half without missing. They have been improving significantly and obviously are very talented.

And every Big East team is praying they don't wind up with them at the Garden

They played well last night. Ponds was good throughout and they made FT's down the stretch. Villanova did not shoot well and the man to man defense was not good as SJU consistently took them off the dribble. Their lack of depth haunted them last night and they really missed Paschall's all around play. He really took a hard fall against the Hall. Having said that I don't think SJU played more than 6-7 guys either.

Mullin's an interesting guy to watch on the sideline and in the huddle on timeouts. Seemed like there was an assistant or two (not Mitch Richmond) who were providing most of the strategy advice with Mullin listening as well. Then on several occasions he would roam the sidelines and be having conversations with fans sitting in the first couple of rows that would result in smiles and laughs.

Its hard to believe with their talent that St.Johns has only one Big East win.

In my opinion, the Mullin hire was the same as our Eddie Jordan hire. Well intentioned but a mistake.

Mullin is actually bringing in pretty good talent. Not really coaching them up that well but doing a better job than Eddie did on the recruiting trail, and much better on bringing in transfers (Owens from Tennessee, Simon from Arizona, Clark from Michigan State).

I guess it's the perfect storm...literally...beat Duke and Nova and ignore how close in some cases they were at Xavier etc

The kicker is that Marcus Lovett, the 2nd best scorer on the team has been out for most of the BE schedule and there were some rumblings that Lovetts Dad decided to pull the plug and keep his son out to focus on the draft vs playing through his knee injury.

The fact that they are playing better since Lovett has not been playing, shows how not just chemistry in the locker room but also on the court can somehow be discovered by accident. An injury can elevate a player or two into new roles and make a roster better....another 3 weeks or so to see if it's just a trend or actual fact that it would be addition by subtraction with Lovett out.
