What year did we play at Memphis where the on field temp was just slightly below the surface of the sun? I remember going and that we won but can't remember the year. I just remember trying to buy every bottle of water available and being roasted to death.

2000. That whole September was awful with 100 degree temps almost every day.

It was a pretty bad drought in the Golden Triangle as well. The lakes on the MSU golf course were almost dry and it looked like snow on them from all the golf balls laying out there in the mud.

My memory is the same. I had a flask of whiskey that I don’t think I ever touched because it felt like if I stopped drinking water for 5 minutes, I was going to shrivel up and die. I can’t remember the specifics, but I do remember having to go from cold water to warm water that they hadn’t refrigerated yet and then finally to nothing. I want to say that the Liberty Bowl completely ran out before the 3rd quarter was over.

I don’t know what it is about that stadium, but it feels like the pits of hell in September, you’re likely to still get sunburned in Nov/Dec, and then you can about guarantee that it’ll be 20 degrees for any bowl game there

The Florida game was pretty terrible too. It was like a sauna in the student section and I don’t think I’ve ever sweated more in my life.

Back then the band wore uniforms no matter what, so we had a few members pass out to the heat, and for me the foam padding on my drum carrier literally melted to my uniform.

Which, combined with the turf surface and the concrete and aluminum monstrosity that is the liberty bowl, means that it was 1,843,787 degrees in the stadium that day. And that doesn't even include the humidity, which was probably at 486%.

Yep...my wife was way ahead that day...she froze water bottles for the girls in our tailgate group and in the first quarter they all had those frozen bottles stuck down in their bras! They love to tell that story.

My wife (then GF) was about to pass out. We were on the first row behind the team bench. Someone on the team came over and gave her water without our even asking. Brutal day.

You obviously have never seen or worn full band uniforms, or you wouldn't make this comment. I don't remember exactly what fabric they are made out of, but it retains heat and does not breathe at all.

That season saw the hottest game I have ever been to (Memphis), the coldest game I have ever been to (A&M in Indy Bowl) and the most miserable weather game I have ever been to (Arkansas in the sleet) as well as the cruelest game I have ever been to (LSU - we led by 14 and were cruising in the 4th only to lose in OT).

Games in Memphis has been the hottest, the coldest, and the wettest that I have ever been at a ballgame.

Hottest - 2000 Felt like bacon in a skillet
Coldest - 1990 Liberty Bowl
Wettest - I forget the year, some time in the 1980's, but I remember having water up past my ankles in the fairgrounds around the Liberty Bowl. Pretty sure we won on the last play.
