TBH, the speed of the game and the condition of the players from TG to BB was THE main difference between the two. What alarmed me the most was when we abandoned what TG wanted - "the best conditioned team in the nation". I think we just re-embraced that with the hiring of PM.

It'll be fun to watch. IMO

Great article by Hoover. From Monty's opening press conference, to various radio & TV interviews, to this description of practice, you can feel the energy, passion & enthusiasm coming through ! He would be a great coach to play for. He will raise the "ceiling" of many players. I'm looking forward to the spring game !

To be technically correct it would be Category-5 if we are talking Hurricane. And maybe that should be our new mascot...a tiger or lion with the name Cat-5

I got a little mixed up...

Always hearing about F- whatever tornadoes...

It should be Cat-5...

Thanks for the correction...

+1

That's actually pretty decent. It would be better than anything we've had.

Nothing more than the World
responding to criticism and cancellations
from TU fans. Nothing from this staff is anything
but crumbs left over from their prize coverage
of O and OS and the Big 12

Sounds like Coach is taking what Graham did to the next level. Don't give em time to think about it. Get it into the muscle memory so they just react without thinking about it. Tulsa did too much thinking last season and was not in good physical shape. Besides it sounds like the players are enjoying the hell out of it. Video I have seen of them they always moving quickly. Also when the coaches Tell the QB's to stand tall to keep their feet under them. That is more than just keeping the feet under them, that's also working on their mental outlook as well.

If the defense continues last years tendency to give up 5 play 80 yard drives and with this offense, we might see games where the losing team scores in the 70s.

With this article painting a dramatic change to the offensive side, I can't help but think this staff can do similar changes to the defense.

Our defensive line must get much much better at sealing edges on runs and creating pressure on the QB without bringing an extra blitzer. The best defenses are the ones that can do those 2 things and not put all the pressure on the back end to cover WRs for 5-6 seconds. We are 2 years from being able to fix the defense because it just means we need to have some better athletes on that side of the ball who can stay in school.

BTW, you can slam the TW for shoddy coverage of TU and the lousy beat writers they assign. But Hoover and Klein and Bailey have always been fair and written good articles about TU. Hoover especially and he may disagree with some of the ideas on this board or take a different approach but at least he has an opinion and backs it up. Yes, we all disagreed with his notion that BB should be retained for another year, but he had his reasons and I don't believe it was something directed by Peters.

Haisten could care less about us and it reflected in his drab articles. I think Kelly Hines has enthusiasm but her limited knowledge of TU and sports in general has limited her some. She is still a relative infant in her career so hopefully she continues to grow. Hoover and Klein I am sure were not superstars immediately. Bob Ryan didn't take over the Boston Globe overnight either.

Is there any doubt that if Bailey wasn't tied to this area he could be in Dallas, Kansas City, St. Louis or another bigger sports town covering a beat there? I think Klein is the same way...he stays here because this is where he is from and his wife is a TU grad as well.

Thats a very fair assessment and one I can't disagree with, but one thing that we can't ignore is who assigns the writers and how much space they get. If there are problems, it comes from the main sports editor. No, the DO is or will be calling the shots. The TW and DO are too cosy and its going to kill the TW - SOONER or later. Since I dropped the TW, I get flyers in the mail a couple of times a week. I think thats what will happen to them in the end - no news just junk in the mailbox. They are discovering the local sports scene a little too late and I won't go into their politics, at least not on this forum.

Just shows u how much better we could have been if Blankenship hadn't gone in house for a new hire. That's ok tho, would have just delayed the inevitable. We're going to be infinity and beyond better now.

Loved reading this article this weekend, was surprised, really nice job by John Hoover. As bad as the basketball loss felt Saturday, this article offset the pain. Glad to read that Dane Evans is taking to the system, crazy fast repetitions, no time to think about the last play in order to run the next, molding a team that plays instinctively at a frantic clip.

The grading scale for TW journalists...

Eric Bailey - A+ ...he set the curve

Hoover - B+ ...following on Bailey's heels overall a good job

Klein - C ...gathered to much info using unnamed sources that posted under various names on the Tulsa Rivals Board

Kelly Hines - C-/D+ ...still trying to figure out that sports coverage is different than The Scene

Scoop Haisten - D ...never really cared for TU and it showed

Dane is a bit undersized, but seems like a good kid with a positive attitude. I could never figure out what was wrong with his mechanics and/or his progression. This article indicates some fixes... If true, he could really lead this team.

Exciting to hear about Monte working with what we have now. It would be easy to come from Baylor and groan at our talent level.

On offense we have some plus talent at most spots w/ the exception of RB, where I think we will be better in this new scheme. Defense needs some speed upgrades at LB although I think Suits ends up all-conference the next 3 seasons. DBs...not sure. Our offense will be fine next year and with the exception of maybe the OU game, we should out up lots of points against just about every other team we play. Someone mentioned next year might be like an arena football game...1st team w/ 3 defensive stops is going to win the game.

Bla, that's a good analysis of our offense as I see it.....I still wish we had another burner that
would be a threat on the deep ball, which Monty will call a whole lot....Lucas is great at all
depths, but he can run the deep routes only so much without total fatigue....

The defense will be a work in process, and barring injuries should be an improving unit as the
season wears on.....The defensive line and line backing corps. both need more depth, and
hopefully the new coaching staff can uncover a few hidden nuggets we don't know about yet....

One thing for sure, if you are recording any of the games, you might set your recorder for the
+ 30 minute option.....I would suggest our games will be somewhat longer and higher scoring....

Assuming the weather forecast is favorable at all, we will come up for the spring game....I'm
looking forward to our offense having enlightened leadership again.....It's been too long since
we saw Malzahn and Morris weave their magic on the opposing defenses.....

It will be fun watching the opposing defenses having to defend the whole field, instead only the
middle of the line, on first down.......Evans will get a lot more opportunities to throw on first
and/or second down than he has in the past.....
