5 HR the first 3 games. I know we've had good power hitters before, but save Rooker does 5 HR by 5 different players seem unusual for our recent teams (~10-12 years)? Maybe I'm wrong, but just seems like a lot - esp in cooler weather. Youngstown State that bad? The new configuration change something?

Sorry if already discussed or completely wrong

It’s a combination of a few things:

We have more power in the lineup 1-9 than we have had in a while. Outside of 2016, it’s been a long time since we’ve had 5-6 guys on our club with a legitimate shot at 8-10 HRs.
We brought the outfield fences in a few years ago.
All of the lounges, lofts, gigantic new scoreboard, etc. have blocked a lot of the strong prevailing winds that blow in from the outfield.
The plaza in right field has been great for left handed hitters.
The lower seams on the baseballs implemented a few years ago has totally changed the way that the ball carries.

DNF plays totally different than it did 6-7 years ago- especially for February games. It went from being a pitchers park that played HUGE, to being a very hitter friendly park.

Just from a physical standpoint, this is the biggest team we’ve had in a long time. Our middle infield is huge, and Foscue has really bulked up since last year. We should put up a lot of runs this year.

Over/Under

What would the number have to be in order for you to take the under on the number of home runs hit this season?

We've had some players that can put up good individual numbers. And the 2016 lineup had a handful that could hit it deep at any moment. Teams could strategically pitch around those guys at times.

But this lineup has serious potential depending on the results we get from Skelton/Jones and Halter/Hatcher. We could be a threat 2-9 to hit the ball out. And the other guy is about to be the all time leader in hits at Mississippi State and one of the best college baseball players I've seen.

I want to see this team against SEC Quality arms. Youngstown State was bad on the mound. But on weekends where it clicks offensively, good luck getting outs.

Remember when we were bitching about midgets. Well, someone listened and recruited us some good sized kids.

Hopefully, this park will help us recruit hitters. Tell them about the big numbers they will put up. On the other hand, I hope it doesn’t hurt us on the occasions that we do get to Omaha and play on that Grand Canyon of a field.

Me too. The biggest takeaway from the weekend for me is that we've had to scratch and claw to score against bad arms in the past. This weekend, we did what good hitting teams are supposed to do. Pound them into submission.

The biggest difference is we’re not recruiting a roster full of 5’9” guys who weigh 150 soaking wet. When you combine that with generally good pitching over the years, any park they play in is going to be a “pitchers park.” We didn’t have any problems hitting himecruns in the 80s

Roof of grandstands also designed to accelerate wind to outfield

Folks may laugh, but a former pitching coach of ours told me that because of the way the new grandstand is built with the flow of wind at field level, the home plate area is more conducing to getting lift on the ball. He predicted 4 years ago that Dudy Noble would turn into a pitcher's nightmare once the expansion was complete.

I guess we'll have to see. But the way he described it, the idea sounds plausible.
