Seems very weird timing. Was already named captain for Holy Cross. But was Patriot League Player of the Year. Very confused

C. J. Egrie appears to be an outfielder with reaching skills and speed on the basepaths--a conclusion I drew from highlights that I found on an Andover [Class of 1922)] web site.

As a Junior, he led Holy Cross--as POY in the Patriot League--into the 2025 NCAA Tourney. In 55 games this (last) year for HC, he scored 67 runs and stole 35 basses, while batting .308. He also hit 5 dingers and drove in 28 runs.

So, he’ll be here for the 2027 season? Does seem like weird timing. Would have made sense to go public after 2026 was over.

We’ve had a number of guys commit as grad transfers the season before their senior years. Chmielewski did this, though he had a medical redshirt his last year at Princeton.

Some conferences don't allow 5th year players. The Ivy League is one. Patirot League may be another. So it makes sense for him to figure it out early rather than battle everybody for a spot in June.
