You didn't read it, obviously. This is synonymous with our current situation. Hitler's wall wasn't complete, and it wasn't heavily fortified nor protected at Normandy, because Germany thought the Allies had lost their minds to breach there.

The caravan has been sending out dead bodies with special papers on them saying that the caravans will make their landing in Charleston SC. ICE and Homeland Security will deploy most of their assets there while the main force of the caravan will cross at San Diego. In case you don't know your history, the british did that to indicate the main force was landing at Calais France, under Patton

My house has walls. They keep the cold out. They also keep out animals and the locks on my doors keep out intruders. I don’t think Ft. Knox has ever been robbed. We put up cement barriers around all federal buildings, airports, even Target has the cement balls in front of it. Rich people wall their houses in. My seawall works to stop tidal incursions. Hoover Dam? We walled in Sadr City in Baghdad and that was effective. I can go on if you’d like.

So many state improperly about the use of walls in their simplistic approach of attempting to validate Trump's wall proposal. There is no doubt a wall or other type of physical borders are effective for different things. But the discussion has to be a little deeper. Israel's wall is mostly for self-defense and is heavily monitored by electronic surveillance by the military. Yes, it also keeps immigrants out but that isn't really the purpose in most instances. Now there are barriers separating boundaries between the two type of people that reside in the country and that is there to keep violence down as they are always fighting and again, it is heavily monitored by electronic means. I personally hope the US never becomes Israel and hope we don't ever need to have walls in order to police our citizens. That isn't freedom to all.

The US has similar type of physical barriers in urban areas. There isn't an argument that there needs to be more but that isn't what Trump proposed during the campaign and is now trying to win political points with in his shutdown of the government. That is the core problem. Open the government and address the issue of border security in an open and honest manner. But that takes adults and leadership. Currently, that is lacking.

Bru, this boils down to Trump attempting to keep a campaign promise. It was just rhetoric. Even Kelly admitted that the whole idea of a concrete wall was never serious and nobody including Trump really thought Mexico was going to pay for it. But, his bigoted base believed him.

It boils down to we need better border security...a wall is a starting point , enforcement of laws taking government funds from illegal immigrants including tax returns..
.so many parts to it ...but ya must fix the leaking roof before you repair the floor ..common sense ...
Every politician has agreed to this in the past , but only during campaigning...they need to just do it ..Nancy, chuck & Obama...Clinton, bush 1 &2 Reagan...& probably Carter...please stop with the wall wont stop it ....it wont by itself but is a great starting point

It’s certainly political. To posit that it’s only on him is absurdly partisan though. The individuals opposing it on the Dem side are in opposition solely because of the politics. They’ve voted for it before. Again, he’s not asking, at least currently, a coast to coast wall. He’s asking for what amounts to a couple of hundred miles in strategic sectors.

And the electronic surveillance already exists. We have sensors, we have thermals, we have UAVs continuously flying the border. We also have ELINT surveillance occurring. A barrier in strategic sectors makes sense to help funnel illegals to a path of least resistance and we can more strategically focus our resources there to have a more impactful response to what is a humanitarian crisis.

Keeping the gov't shut down is not small potatoes and he cares very much about his precious wall. His re-election hopes seem to be hinging on the wall issue or some seem to think so.
