After the last three games I would say regardless of circumstances Raiola’s stock has dropped. In last night’s game he wasn’t just inconsistent, he was ineffective. His best plays were impromptu, backyard middle school plays.

Never mind the defense couldn’t get off the field and gave up 98 and 90 yard long clock eating drives for minnesotas first two td’s. What’s the game look like if they get 3 and outs there? How about Pritchett getting ejected? Offense was moving the ball a bit when he was playing. What about Dana refusing to run the ball even when we were starting to make some yards with it? No QB can be effective when they get sacked 9 times and threatened time and time again. Oline is horrible and has been for years. We do not have the talent there at all. Dline is mediocre at best. We do not have the Jimmy and Joes. Saban would not win with this bunch.

There are lotsa reasons coaches stick with the QB who has proven himself over many hours of practice and film study to be the most capable. Just one is that if the benching doesn’t work out, both the former starter and the unprepared sub are likely worse off going forward. I get the hesitancy.

The quarterback is a sitting duck when he has no ability to escape. No designed run plays for him. Why is that so hard to understand?. Plenty of teams win with drop back qb’s. Only Nebraska fans think any qb that can’t run sucks. If you can run the ball and pass protect, the qb doesn’t need to run. Why do we blame the qb when all we need is an oline? Stop blaming the qb for other position groups sucking.

Something has to change for Dylan to realize his potential. Either he transfers to another school that can field a competent OL to protect him and allow him to perform in an offense that fits his skills, or the other Raiola needs to leave and Rhule needs bring in a coach that can make that happen here. The family dynamics of this situation are pretty interesting when you put aside that NU's season is hanging in the balance on the issue.

People just want to whine when we lose. I get it. I do too. And many people only know how to blame the qb because they don’t know what they’re watching. Dylan isn’t the only immobile qb in the country that holds the ball too long but yet we’ve given up more sacks than anyone in the country. Dylan is in a bad spot. The coaches have put it on him to move the offense. We don’t even try to run most of the time to keep the defense honest. Minnesota sat in a soft zone waiting for short throws with their safeties coming down hill fast while their DE’s pinned their ears back. They were daring us to throw deep. We couldn’t protect. Yeah Dylan could step up on some of those sacks, but it’s hard for him to trust that when he had already been pressured straight up the middle many times. He’s rightfully uncomfortable in the pocket because many times there is no pocket. So he bails backwards to escape the rush. Minny was ready for it and our tackles were nothing more than telephone poles.

It’s been 24 years since Eric Crouch was here. No one since has been able to do that. I guess Adrian Martinez hit open receivers that were actually defensive backs for the other teams. So did Jeff Sims. And several others. Been one dimensional forever .

The only legitimate argument that he/she can make but never will because it doesn’t fit their narrative is that a running qb can compensate for deficiencies else where on the roster and that Nebraska has not and cannot recruit at a high enough level to win vs good teams without a qb run threat. I don’t believe that to be true but it’s a much more rational argument than “you can’t win without a running qb in modern college football” which is plainly wrong

That make sense but as you are aware if your only threat is when the qb takes off for a nice run on a busted play….your offense sucks. I can see how people can wrongly think that is a good thing, it’s what we lived with for several years.
