What if Steve Worthy had arrived at RU one year earlier? Instead of Mike Jones at SG, there'd be Worthy. So...
PG Duncan
SG Worthy
SF Lumpkin/Smith
PF Hughes

That team had enough talent for Sweet 16 (without Worthy). The way they finished the season losing to an average St Joes at the Palestra and then choking away the ASU game was bitterly disappointing :(

Not without Worthy. No way. We weren't even ranked in the Top 25 that year. With Worthy, though, yes.

What if the initial euphoria of Wenzel's tenure hadn't degenerated into putrid recruiting and on court hopelessness?

Don't know if there'd be enough shots available for those guys. If you passed the ball you probably wouldn't have touched it again.

What if Bannon didn't make guys strip after missing free throws.
Not the subject of the original post, but I can't believe some people still think that Bannon "made" them do that. Everybody had the choice not to participate and some of them did not.

It doesn't really matter, it was pretty damn stupid - the team was showing signs of life with Jones and Billet and then all hell broke loose.

Huh? They still had a good season. The strip free throws wasn't the cause of choking away an NCAA tournament berth that year in 99.

respectfully disagree. we weren't top 25 because we incurred some bad early season losses. Do you remember the last few games of the regular season? we were en fuego. We absolutely decimated a very good Temple team at the RAC . we were playing at an extremely high level.

What if Hodgson did not dribble the ball off his own thigh against what I think was SHU late one season - had RU won that game, I think they likely would have made the NCAA. Almost any NCAA appearance might have changed RU's program trajectory. I cannot remember the year.

What if RU had beaten St. John in the 1979 NCAA tourney - which means they almost certainly would have beaten Penn and been in the Final Four facing MSU and Magic Johnson ... and then what if RU had beaten MSU to face Indiana State and Larry Bird - who they had beaten the year before, also with Larry Bird? Minimum: 2 Final Fours in a span of 4 years. That could have allowed even Tom Young, who hated recruiting, to get better players, even in the face of competition from Big East teams.

What if Wenzel let Lumpkin hoist some threes in the last 3 mins of the ASU game?

If Gary Waters was not fired and replaced by the cheap and incompetent Hill,Rutgers would have a had a real bb program.Hopefully, our current hc will make this come true a decade after, this DUMB firing of Gary Waters by a poor political hac.

What if Pernetti fired Fred Hill at the conclusion of the Big East tournament and not the last week in April, we very well could have had Fran McCaffery here

Mulcahy should have fired bannon immediately after year 3. Waters should have been fired after year 4. Bob and waters shouldn't have put Fred on staff. Waters shouldn't have gotten stuck in the snow. Fred shouldn't have been promoted. Pernetti shouldn't have been hired. Pernetti should have fired Fred sooner. Rice enough said .
Lots of culprits here, mostly bob.

What if Bob Mulcahy didn't neglect basketball for years letting it rot on the vine?

What if we closed on Wright before Nova fired Lappas

I win.
There is no question Wright not coming to Rutgers has determined the fate of Villanova and Rutgers basketball for a long period of time. What could have been also can be dreamed about after NJ top tier recruits says no to Rutgers.

What if we had won even one of our few final 2003-2004 (regular season / BET) games?

Compared to Mulcahy ,Pernetti was great.A long line of incompetent leadership in athletics and university operations are the real casualties. The culprits reside in the presidents office.
