Leach's job is to win football games, and Hill gives him the best means of doing that. It's his job to make it work. Hill certainly has ample blame as well.

Sounds like some folks are fine being losers so long as coach "does it the right way".

If I heard it once I heard it a thousand times in the Moorhead era....you get ONE chance to set the culture. Funny how quickly some forget that.

You're not wrong. Personally, I care far more about Mississippi State winning ballgames than I do Mike Leach's methods, ideals, and culture.

Croom had a GREAT team culture early. Miss me on doing it the "right way"

have you seen the talented head cases in the NLF? they are all over the place. it's the coaches job to manage personalities. the best coaches can make it work.

They will only put up with it if they are a superstar. Kylin Hill types in the NFL are plentiful. He has NFL talent but if he does not bring every week, they won't have him.

I wish he was invested. He’s talented, we could use him. I highly doubt he’s going to change in the short term, if the story is true about what happened at Kentucky in the locker room.

That said, get the young guys experience.

IF he can build what is needed to win under him, I'm not concerned about short term issues. That is how I see Kylin. Short-term issue. Be awesome if he could be a contributor, but if not so be it. My personal experience indicates that it takes around 18 - 24 months for people to really "see" what a leader wants them to see. Some people buy in immediately and are just good followers, others won't buy in until they see the light and others still, never see the light and move on. I'm willing to assume he's doing what is best for MSU long term, so I don't care much about now. Plus this year sucks anyway and wasn't going to be "normal" no matter who suits up.

I had real hope for Moorhead UNTIL I started hearing all the same things about him that we heard about Croom. Players coach. Kids really love him. Great guy. etc. At that point, I had an early, unsupported by actual results, feeling that it might not go well. Still I was willing to give him time to do well. Year 2 was just unimaginable in the way he handled it.

Ha. If you can't see that was tongue in cheek, not sure I can help you. Of course it will get better by year 3. But Leach isn't going to repeat what he did in the PAC-12 and Big 12 at MSU. And he's certainly not going to do it being as one dimensional on offense as he's being this year.

As for Cohen, even throwing out the first 2 seasons, which is somewhat fair because Polk left such a disaster, he's only 93-86 in SEC play. He did have the 2 very great years (although one of them he lost in the super), but he also had another dead 17ing last finish that can't be blamed on Polk at all. And his record as AD has been very spotty.

No it's not, but high star athletes don't quit teams all over the NCAA in the middle of the season either. Saban manages personalities. he has 4 and 5 stars all over the place and you don't think some of those guys are head cases or prima donnas? that's what these SEC coaches get paid for. Manage the team, develop, manage personalities.

Saban manages to give them *** chewings until such time they straighten up and fly right. That or they get processed.

We shall see. I'll be happy to be proven wrong, but he ain't coming out of the gates real well is he?

In 2007 an Alabama team coached by Nick Saban lost to Sylvester Croom and the Bulldogs. The following week they lost to Louisiana-Monroe. La-Monroe had a volunteer coach at the time taking zero pay. Making that game probably the one with the greatest salary disparity between losing and winning coaches in the history of the sport.

Obviously they should have fired Saban on the spot.

BTW, Nick Saban inherited an Alabama team much like we are today. He ran a ton of players off that first year.

Yet he took us further than we've ever gone, won the SEC for the first time in 27 years, and built much of the team that we're still winning with...
Congrats on the shitshow season when they changed the balls though.

"Leach isn't going to win here like he has everywhere else" is a pretty dang hot take also.

I wish I could place a bet on hill acting hurt in his first NFL game. Dude is super talented but is a head case in the Antonio brown mold. Antonio brown at least earned his in the NFL before being a head case came to the forefront.

If you're going to be a head case in the NFL, you'd better be elite talent. Hill is talented, but he's not elite talent. Especially considering his position is a dime a dozen in the NFL. Unless the owner is Jerry Jones.

Mobile Bay who was coaching ULM in that game where they beat Bama in 2007? Was Charlie Weatherbie not coaching them? If not who was the volunteer and why was he coaching them?

Because at Alabama, the headcase knows he has another 4 or 5 star behind him and if he acts the fool he can and will be replaced by someone quickly. Hill knows that the RBs behind him aren't as good and thought that Leach would baby him.
