I've stopped in there to eat a couple times in recent years whenever I happen to take 33 home. Know there's a decent middle eastern style restaurant, but can't remember the name. Seems like Shallamz or something like that. Higher dollar one I've been to twice is called Cutlers Restaurant, but the place I prefer is kind of a brewpub/dive place called Jackie O's. The coeds seem to dig me there.

Ha ha, MH knows more about Athens restaurants than I do. I haven't eaten in Athens in more than 30 years, and Athens had virtually no good eateries back in the day. Southeastern, Ohio teenagers and young adults traveled to Parkersburg to the Point of View or Sebastians (IIRC) to eat at a decent restaurant back in the day.

Athens is usually the spot I'm starving at during my 6th hour of driving. Often I can't make it that far, and end up eating at the Arby's in Logan.

I've always found Athens to be a cool town, that and Oxford always the best MAC road trips!

It is a great place to raise a family, but way too liberal for my liking as an adult. IIRC, Athens County was one of the very few counties in America, in which George McGovern actually received more votes than Richard Nixon...LOL

I was surprised to hear that Pleasants County WV where my brother lives is a liberal bastion... didn't think any were left inWV
