Pretty sure Galax just won the Golf state chamipionship, even if it was on a technicality. Just letting you know, since they had NO CHANCE according to you last year.

Yeah yeah they got dominated by giles and pretty much galax choked it up after winning the region! Brock cox managed to turn it around a little on the second day but careered it on the first day! 81 I would like to know why the wrong ball was called at the end of the round and not on that hole! I don't know the whole situation but it think thats pretty unsportsmanlike if they knew on the second hole. I think it said giles and galax were playing together in the paper. Do you even play golf or know anything about the sport? Or do you just like hyping galax up on here? Because they are still riding low on the totem pole

From today's Roanoke Times:

"...[VHSL golf rules interpreter Tom] Dolan pointed out that golf is one sport in which a violation can be ruled on retroactively, citing as an example an instance several years ago when professional Craig Stadler was disqualified after the fact for kneeling on a towel. Calling on his own experience as a former coach, Dolan said it was not unusual for players to wait until the round is over to seek a rules interpretation.

"Especially if they're not sure," he said. "They don't want to say something then have that blow up another kid's round and he's thinking about it and shoots 20-over-par and they come to find out they were wrong."

[Giles player Tyler] Meredith said he harbored no bitterness at the rules or the way the other players handled it..."

Two of the last three state trophies are in the cabinet at Galax. The other is a state runner up. I don't think that would be low on anyone's totem pole but yours. It is sad that the tournament had to end like it did, but like your player says he holds no ill feelings toward the other three players or the rules. GET OVER IT, ITS DONE !!!!!!

They tell you at the beginning of the tournament that if there is a question with the rules then consult an official. This all could've been avoided had the players asked about the ruling in question when it happened. The player who miscalled the provisional probably would've been assessed a two stroke penalty, instead of being dq'd. Kind of shoddy sportsmanship if you ask me. Had they just asked an official they could've saved the kid the heartbreak of causing giles a state championship. also it would've been interesting had he only been given the two stroke penalty because i believe galax won by two strokes, so this could've resulted in a tie.

and tide_85 do you honestly expect a high school player to say anything other than he what he did? do you really think he isnt resentful to the other players in his group for waiting until the end of the match to bring up the ruling instead of when it happened? give me a break man. and chinmusic obviously isnt from giles genius.

Well if you don't expect a high school kid to call someone out in the paper why would you expect a high school kid to call another kid out to his face in the middle of his round? When was the last time you called a penalty on someone who you still had 16 holes of golf to play with? Especially how hard it would be for a 16 year old kid to do so. I wish everyone would stop complaining about this penalty being called. If Giles was truly as good of at TEAM as Galax, they would have won. Galax had all six players shoot 81 or lower on the first day and had all 6 of there players shoot and 86 or lower the second day. Whereas Giles was clearly depending on 4 players both days. I'm not trying to call anyone out, but Giles had one kid that shot 90 or higher both days and another kid just one stroke better than joining him on the seond day(shot 90+ first day and the 89 they ended up having to take on the second day). If they were as consistent and deep as Galax, and the other kids on the team had pulled their weight, this penalty would not even be an issue.

well lets see. i called a guy out for marking down the wrong score purposefully on multple holes when i was in high school two years ago, and had a kid call a penalty on me in the state tournament three years ago, on the first hole. its not unheard of and quite frankly isnt that big of a deal. i'm sure anyone would rather have a two stroke penalty called on them at the time it happens rather than at the end, when it results in a dq. i'm also sure almost everyone outside of galax would agree with me when i say that it was definitely not the best sportsmanship not to mention it to the kid right then and there, or even to him at all, but instead wait until the end of the round when you know he will be disqualified for it.

I'm not saying this just because I'm a Galax fan. But I seriously doubt the kid was sitting there thinking, Hey, I bet if I wait unti the end of the round and say something it will win us the state championship. There is no way of knowing that the kid would be dq'd. The judges easily could've said that the 6 stroke difference was too much of a difference to matter, given the kid the two stroke penalty and still given Giles the trophy.

Anyone who knows the rules of golf knows that as soon as he hit the tee shot on the next that he'd be dq'd for marking an incorrect score card. technically thats why he was dq'd. it just resulted from not taking the two stroke penalty.

Here's the truth

The girl from Chatham took the lead on the issue. They were in 2nd place at the time..and she knew a DQ might win it for them.

Galax was not as good as Giles. Giles won it outright. It was taken away from them. Galax sat in 3rd after after an *** whoopin by Giles on day 1. Down by 10 strokes and it was taken away from them because someone in the kids group decided to pull a stunt and not man up to the task of calling the penalty on the spot. Clearly the kid violated the rules. DON"T BE A P**** AND KEEP IT TO YOURSELF THE WHOLE ROUND. Looks like everyone is turning the situation around on the girl from Chatham. Thay may be the case but Galax knew what was going on and decided to keep their mouths shut because they have no class whatsoever. Cutthroat tactics just to get a ring on their finger. What a shame. No class, etiquette, or integrity. I think that was a pos job of integrity. Golf is a game of integrity and it definitely wasn't shown. In my mind it was an act of cheating. When you wait the whole round and DQ a player in hopes that it will help your team win in the end... Thats the definition of CHEATING!

Technically Chatham took it from Giles and Galax just happened to be the benefactor. That's not Galax's fault. Keep your mouth shut if you don't know what your talking about

I do know what im talking about! I clearly said it may have been Chatham that held the call till the end but do you really think Galax didnt know the whole round and day? You are crazy! Galax played as big a part of that they could and the ended up stealing the title not earning it like Giles did.
