This is not a learn on the job position. Ideal candidate is proven coach in power 5 or g5. Coach that knows what it will take to get this thing turned around quickly. I like Tammi Reiss, Carla Berube, Shauna Green Gail G as a retread if she is interested,

Muffet McGraw is 66 and retired. Might have lost the desire.
Aida Barnes is building a good program at the UofA and douptful she would consider leaving the Wildcats
Jolette Law didn't make it as the Illinois HC and even with her her success under Staley would be too much of a gamble .

Rutgers needs an up and comer , no retreads or wanting to get back in game .
A top assistant might be acceptable, but a young and successful coach at a non P-5 conference
might be best

So who would you want?
Of potential retreads, Gail G. Not many others, there is a reason they are out of the game. If the desire was there, I would listen to Melanie Balcomb.

I think most of the other coaches mentioned, including Tammie Reiss, Shauna Green, and others. Of non-head coaches / Rutgers tradition coaches - Chelsea Newton is about the only one I can think of.

Of all the serious suggestions there have been many that I don't think would come, but I certainly would welcome (almost) all of them.

And just to clarify about Adia - first, she now makes about what Vivian makes, approximately a million a year. Plus, she is an Arizona alum. That is why she is especially happy here. I'm not saying she will never leave, but no one is going to make an offer she can't refuse until she has a little more track record.

Delusional list... I have the full confidence that Hobbs will compile a comprehensive list. He has his short comings no doubt but making solid hires is not one of them. If there is indeed change, this will be a methodical search and hire. Everyone should be excited for this. It's refreshing, this program is beyond boring and stale... it's a shame.

I thought about Tasha Pointer once I saw somewhere recently that she has head coaching experience. Then I looked up her record at UIC.

I would have voted for Gail Goestenkors if she was listed (and interested). I remember her as a good coach and good recruiter. Her teams were always tough at Duke. And she is young, about my age, ha ha. I think she would build the program back up at Rutgers.

Definitely have to move on from the current disastrous hostage situation ASAP.

Rutgers BIG $$ is less than SEC money.
SEC emotional and geographic connections are < Staley’s emotional and geographic connections in a B1G and near Philadelphia area
By the way, B1G $$$ is about to be > SEC $$$
Even if it is remotely less, this area still conquers. Staley is very tight and fond of CVS and Rutgers.

I picked Adia, but that would NEVER happen. Nobody else on the list should be in the discussion.
As said in another thread I would be thrilled with Chelsea Newton for a variety of reasons.

Dawn Staley- before you dismiss it, ask yourself if it’s possible. More than you think. Especially now with B1G money.
Dawn is making just shy of $3 million per year, RU will NOT pay that kind of money for a Head Coach of WBB

What is CVS getting paid? A little under $1 million this year. With new B1G money we would most likely match it. It’s a different world these days and Rutgers is not going to go on the cheap if someone like Staley would consider the move. Remember, don’t ever say never.

Completely unnecessary to pay this and were in no position to pay this for a program that's essentially dead. We can make a great hire based on the current budget and still save money. This increased windfall needs to be applied to our debt and essential facilities improvements.

you get what you pay for .
Sadly RU MBB hired on the cheap, had facilities that didn't help recruiting and paid the price..
The reason RU WBB wasn't affected by the facilities is Vivian's name brought in recruits and facilities weren't as much as a deterrent as they were for men's basketball getting talent to come.
But the coaching wasn't top notch because of hiring on the cheap and hoping it would work out.

RU needs to pay what Vivian is making now or close to it in order to aquire a HC that can do the job ( or seems to have the coaching chops and experience to run a top program)

Never. Sorry. To believe otherwise is to ignore reality at this time.

Exactly zero cents should be applied to the debt.

Why would she leave number 1 to come to this cluster? Also A&M is hiring a new coach and they can money whip RU into oblivion…A&M spent $2M on freaking softball facilities…going for to coach to compete in the SEC again and against Texas and baylor will require a top coach.

I’d add Shauna Green to the wish list. Dayton head coach. And Carla Berube of Princeton too.

Definitely not a former player with no real coaching experience. Hell, we tried a former player with coaching experience (Eddie) and that was a disaster. Agree with an up and comer or a Gail G type.

it will be a low level coach from bumblebee northeast school
Hopefully not and those thinking that like you ( include me in that group) will be pleasantly surprised that Hobbs is given the permission to pay what it takes to bring in a quality replacement.

…and now imagine how much MORE $$$ he’d have had he not given CVS a 5 year extension out of what I’m guessing is implied pressure not to be seen as pushing a HOF coach out the door, or lack of down-the-road vision.

the implied pressure might not have been as big as a problem as we might think it was.
But I can't argue that it wasn't nor that Hobbs didn't want to be known as the AD that killed a HOF HC's career .
CVS' extention wasn't all that bad, untill she kept away from the program shortly after signing it and eventualy the public was notified she was on a LOA and couldn't be involved with the program until it was over.
That was BS
