Almost every problem the huskers have had with the football was program was created by the poor leadership of Perlman. At least this time old Harvey has no influence this time. GBR

Frankly, the fact that he is not around should give us football fans hope.

Just think of the kind of guy that he wanted as A.D. and that pretty much tells you all you need to know about good old Harvey's influence on the athletic program. And no, Osborne doesn't count as a Harvey hire.

He certainly presided over the fall of the program. His style of leadership was so political and PYA - even when Eichorst hired Riley he made sure the papers printed he told Eichorst it was his hire and his decision alone

I disagree. Just about every problem was caused by not doing a national AD search when Devaney stepped down in 1993. Spanier hired his buddy Byrne (not a bad hire). Byrne was tied to Spanier and when he was humiliated by TO announcing Solich his successor (his buddy) when Byrne was on vacation, Byrne said so long. Perlman did hire his buddy Pederson - true. But Pederson was Osborne's buddy, so Harvey was just doing what he was told. Unfortunately, Solich wasn't Pederson's buddy, so ADSP wanted to replace Solich with one of his buddies (Wannstadt). Wanny bailed on him and he was forced to hire someone who wasn't his buddy out of desperation. When Cally tanked, HP fired his former buddy and replaced him with another buddy Osborne. Osborne fired HCBC and replaced him after a "national search" of two buddies (Bo and Gill). After Pelini became a liability HP and TO were no longer buddies and HP forced Osborne out (but not before hiring a buddy to coach baseball) and replaced him with one of his buddy's buddies. Eichorst wasn't Pelini's buddy, so replaced him with one of his buddies. Eichorst wasn't anybody's buddy after Harvey left and here we are. And let's not forget Tippy Dye hired his buddy Devaney to be AD after Devaney hired his buddy to be head coach. Obviously, sometimes the buddy system works.

What may be different this time is Bounds wasn't anybody's buddy. He never worked at NU and was hired after a national search vetted four finalists. Chancellor Green was at NU for around 5 years in the Ag department, but was also hired by a panel of 25 that vetted four finalists. Hopefully Bounds and Green believe in taking time well before crisis mode to do a national search and vet several candidates and we can finally break the buddy cycle.
