I’m a frequent visitor of this board, but rarely post. Just thought I’d give my thoughts on the offense and why we’re not clicking like we were early on this season.
The number one issue is no post threat. Tom Izzo gave the blueprint to every other team on how to defend our team. Switch on all ball screens and keep our guards at the 3 point line. Teams have no respect for MJs ability to score 1 on 1 in the post, or if he has a clear easy basket they are fouling and having him go to the line. Switching on all high low ball screens is stopping our guards from easily penetrating the paint where they can either take it to the basket, lob it to MJ or kick it to a spot up shooter.
I am not a basketball Xs and Os guy but I think Pike should go away from high ball screens with MJ, instead try a high ball screen with Harper have him roll to the basket. If they switch to a small guard have Harper post up and go to work. If they try to go around the screen I think our guards JY, Tez, Geo can beat their guy off the dribble and get back into the lane where they can kick it out for an open 3, lob it to Johnson on the weak side or take it themselves.
Again, I don’t know basketball Xs and Os too well but I think this could be effective going forward. Would love to hear everyone’s take.

I have agreed with not having MJ set the high screen for more than two years now. It usually doesn't happen until 15 seconds into the shot clock and eliminates any down-low option for him until late into the possession (not that we look for him anyway), and also takes him out of rebounding position. Plus, he picks up at least one stupid foul per game by setting that screen. It's amazing how predictable and wasteful our offense is. You know what they say about doing the same thing continuously and expecting different results.

I agree with what's been said; if Myles could shoot a 10 footer, then setting the screen could make sense as he could roll off it and may be open for a short jumper; otherwise, I have no idea why Pike continues to have him do this. It also opens up those opportunities where he gets called for a foul in some of those situations.

Can someone explain to me what happened to Paul in the high post and running plays around that?

And we very very rarely execute a pick and roll anyway so I agree 100% we should forget that and I agree free up Harper or how about we actually set some off the ball back screens
