Trump is going to announce he's running in 2020.

If he does I wouldn't be so sure he wins again. First of all he barely won last time (and that was against the worst major party candidate in history). And secondly the economy isn't going to keep surging forever and if it happens to be down at election time in 2020 then that will hurt him. And also I think people (certainly myself) are getting sick of the drama. If the Dems can put up a candidate that's not terrible and not a drama creator they'll have a good chance (although counting on the Dems to do the smart thing isn't always a good bet).

I long for the days when the two parties haggled over stuff like whether the Social Security age needs raised.

You didn't think he would run again? Let's see if makes it through his first term which is far from guaranteed.
Well..... that shoots my prediction out of the water. I didn't think he would run. But I'll make another one.....IF he does run....he won't win.

His victory will be Reaganesque.

I do not think Trump is going to go down in history anything like Reagan. At best he will go down as a necessary wrecking ball. He'll never be widely beloved but if things work out a certain way he may be widely considered to have served a useful purpose.

Uh, Probably the same time don't ya think? They only turn off you, Trump turns off moderate Republicans. But maybe that is just my Trump hate again, like when I made up that he doesn't like active shooter drills, lol.

It's hard this far in advance to know who would do well. At this point in the 2008 cycle, whicyh was early 2006, few people knew much about Obama but he won in 2008. In 2000 McCain was a nobody and he almost won (and then in 2008 he got the GOP nomination).

I agree that the big current Dem names like Hillary and Biden and Bernie aren't going to do anything in 2020 but I'm sure there are plenty of other currently lesser known Dems angling right now and one of them might hit big. The interesting thing for me isn't necessarily who it will be but what they will and won't embrace.

The 2020 race is shaping up to be very interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a GOP challenger to Trump or if we get a significant 3rd party candidate and plus I'm sure we'll get many different kinds of Dems running.

Kamala and Pocanhantas are big no's, also.

Maybe but I haven't really paid much attention to them so I can't render a judgement. Some people talk like Biden could do it but in addition to the fact that he'd be 78 my guess is he'd come off poorly with a large amount of exposure. But that said I bet he could have beaten Trump. I bet he kicks himself every day for not running in 2016.

Too many people with poor past at political prognostication making absolute statements again. Do they never learn? Hell, some of them are still saying they were right the last time. It was absolutely with entertainment value when results were in and their candidate proved popular in NY and Cal.
