Have to get this kid going. He's passing up too many shots that I expect him to take when he gets the pass. This is why Simpson just starts taking them. Griffiths doesn't want them, have to make him take all the shots in practice even if the defender gets into him. No passing allowed for this guy in practice. It's your shot Gav. Take it! I don't care if he misses rather it be him taking them if it's not Hyatt.

He has hunted shots and missed almost all. He did have an open one in the corner and instead drove to the basket. I agree with ykur sentiment in a sense….if he isnt taking shots and making an impact on offense he shouldnt be on the floor.

After all the hype, he has been a massive failure so far. Yes, failure. This kid was supposed to be a five star and top 20 recruit. I didn't expect great defense or rebounding but I thought he would be a much better shooter.

Yes that's why I said in practice lol...I'm talking about actions designed to get him shot, I see him pass out of it too much. Just want him to gain more confidence in his self. Believe in yourself because you have all the tools young man.

I am not the Bill Walsh of offensive college basketball. We have a great and easy play where the 5 screens down and creates a nice shot off a screen or if guarded a pick and roll opportunity with Cliff. We have run in a handful of times. I am not sure why we dont run it at least a few times per half.

He has tried this at times this year, where he just shoots and on several occasions his shots were way off (air balled one yesterday). I assume that this kills his confidence, then he becomes gun shy to pull the trigger, and starts taking less shots. He should shoot more. Coaches need to encourage him to do this more. This season should really be all about Gavin, JMike, Mag, and developing Simpson at this point. A tourney appearance is not happening, so at least develop the guys you need next year who will realistically be here. For that matter, start giving Chol minutes instead of Oskar, he may actually be needed next year in the rotation for small minutes. Get him some experience. This is a lost season as far as postseason is concerned. Let these guys gain valuable experience for next season. Noah has been of little benefit to the team, play Simpson. Put Gavin on the floor more. What does it matter? This team has played 4 real teams and looked terrible in 3 of those games (Princeton, Wake, and Miss St.). Let players gain experience for benefit next year……what’s the difference who plays when you can’t get a rebound on either end of the floor??

Lol I agree with some of this
But you can't give up on the season as a coaching staff. I felt the same way last year and then the team went on a run until mag got hurt. So let's see what the coaches come up with. Playing Simpson more is not the answer. Fernandes is someone that can get hot and hopefully as he gets into better shape and more removed from his injury, he will become more consistent.

The team had more talent last year. We were an NCAA team until the Mag injury.

I understand what you’re saying about Fernandes in theory…..reality is vastly different. He’s not aggressive enough in seeking his shot, he doesn’t distribute and get easy shots for others, he isn’t as quick as you would think as he rarely breaks down his man and blows past with a path in the lane, he is tiny thus he can’t do anything in the paint and can’t help on the boards. The reality is the things we think Noah CAN do are things he DOES NOT do. It’s not just Noah, Same for Cliff, I would love to see 14 and 10 out of Cliff every night as I think most of us penciled that in for him this year. If this team continues on this path of being unable to get a rebound and gets hammered in the upcoming conference games, at some point coaches need to think about getting players experience. It doesn’t mean Noah doesn’t play at all, you just cut his minutes, rely on him less as reality dictates a change and play others more.

Absurd comment
From a factual standpoint
3rd on team in points per minute
Best FG percentage of any of the top 8 that are not playing center
From a subjective point of view
His defense is improving every game
He has the ability to get his shot at any time
He is the most complete offensive player on the team and by the end of the year the statistics will support that
He will finish the year shooting over 35% from 3 and will lead us in scoring over the last ten games of the year

Just like w your Mag comments earlier, I’m now very excited for GG to really break out and show you for the umpteenth time your hoops takes are usually flawed.

Top 40 recruit, not Top 20 and it’s December of his freshman year for phuck’s sake. Let’s maybe give him two months before all this nonsense.

If you don't see Gavin is right on the cusp of finding his way then you don't know basketball well. He just needs confidence, but from what I'm seeing everything is there. His shot is right there, and he is more than just a shooter - just need some confidence. I expect Gavin will be a very solid player here for at least 3 years.

Gavin is a freshman and doing what you expect freshmen to do, defer to upperclassmen. More than satisfied with him. Remember he’s a quick learner. Too many unrealistic expectations. Same with Jamichael. Up and down. More worrisome is Derek being up and down.
'FRESHMAN' is the one word I would use to describe Gavin - he's finding his way and is consistently inconsistent - which is what Freshmen do! The unfortunate thing is we desperately need all his talents on this team (and then some) like YESTERDAY!

Everything looks a little rushed to me. The shot has been very inconsistent with some very bad misses. Defense should improve with experience but the slight frame does not allow him to play to his height. Doesn't look like he is ready to lead the team and unfortunately the skill level of most of the guys is not high enough to allow him to be just a nice complementary piece.

Most who expected instant high powered offense nightly don’t understand the transition. GG is feeling his way and his lack of some muscle mass is an important aspect for success. It is our poor guard play which has slowed his progression more than we all banked on . Please Rutgers posters give this kid some time. Next year he will be joined by several others pieces of the puzzle.

We need to get Griffiths going. Like most shooters, he can be streaky. Once he gets going, he can be tough to stop. Pike says this is a good offensive, but when is he going scheme to get his best shooter going?

If that’s the case, then what are Harper and Bailey, with Dortch, Somerville and Grant going to do as Freshman?? Are we throwing water on the fire already for next year??? Those freshman will have to be productive, in their Freshman year. We don’t have time for much of any transition at all when we only have one year from Dylan and Ace.

I would agree on the defense point (and most of the others as well). When I first saw him I thought it was sort of scary how bad he was defensively. But the last few games he seems to have turned a corner at least to me. More aggressive and I think he has the size and can move well enough where his d contributions will actually be a positive down the road.

This. And it will be the same unrealistic expectations next season. Harper, I believe will be totally up to the challenge. I expect Bailey to be more up and down and I already sense unrealistic expectations of Sommerville next season as the supposed starting big man on a team with a potential deep run in the tournament. Big men take more time to develop and adapt. I truly hope pike can get a serviceable defensive/rebounding big man out of the portal. From what I’ve heard, Ogbole is not that guy.

Exactly - I think a lot of people's expectations are not fair for next year. These are freshman coming in (no matter what their rank is), and there is going to be a transition to next level comp. While I think Dylan and Ace will be ok - the talk of NC or Final Four is a little bit much, especially when you consider they will most likely not be coming into a winning team based on what we are all seeing this year. Lathan is a big body, but not sure how much time he needs to adjust or if his feet are quick enough for B1G play - he does have a nice touch.

My thoughts… some posters told everyone he was going to come here and dominate on offense (you know who you are) or even 1 and done (lol). That just doesn’t happen very often. So a lot of of fans started thinking that was true. Well it’s not. He is going to be good but it may take a year to get up to speed, like it does for most players. Next year is a great opportunity for Gavin. Ace and Dylan can’t be guarded 1v1 so expect more open shots for other players. I think expect Gavin to thrive in that role and I’m a looking forward to that team.

I’m talking about a big man who can play defense and rebound in a starter’s role. I suspect he’s more a project than being able to fill that role.

I think he’ll be great eventually. He just needs more strength and conditioning and some confidence.
Totally agree. He also needs to play more. Our so called “offense” isn’t doing him any favors right now either. He’s basically asked to create for himself, which isn’t doing much for his confidence right now but the skills and ability are totally there. As you said…he needs strength and confidence (and more reps)…and his defense isn’t much worse than a few others who play a lot more.

Kids not a massive fail. That’s a crappy fans take. This team doesn’t pass the ball well and a few guys on this team take too many shots.
That's it exactly. The team doesn't pass the ball and so how is a freshman going to get into the flow of the game? If you're not in the flow, you're in your head and if you're head you're not going to shoot well. I've never seen a set of more selfish players at RU than this year.
