Grades after Iowa State game

Tough loss at one of the hardest road places in the country. Home crowd, home self aggrandized refs and it is surprising we were as close as we were. Grades for this game.
Stirtz: C Didn't seem to be in the game. Stood in the corner for a large part of the shot clock. Looked tired
Koch: C Kind of a non factor. Had a couple buckets early and then disappeared.
Banks: B+ He is a good ball player. Was not afraid to get into the paint
Manyawu B- Another good ball player but kind of a meh game
Combs: B- Brought the ball up most of the night, does pretty good job of running the team. Played good defense
Howard: B Good player, Only a sophmore, going to get better and better
Tate: A Key player on this team and he deserves more minutes. Had a strong game. Only a freshman, going to be a good one.
Folgerous: C Didn't seem to play very big for his height. Needs to improve on defense.
Team grade for the game? I would say B- .

Tate is a good illustration of why a good coach still matters in today nil landscape. He’s played as well as any Iowa freshman (on both sides of the ball) for some time.
how did he just have Drake and Tulsa offers.

It was a low scoring game when you look at the stats take that into account

Yeah, I would have Stirtz in a B grade with 10 pts, 5 bounds and 4 assists
he hit some big 3s, got his chin dinged so not sure what that does; he did look tired in 2nd half

Manyawu , my gosh 10 pts 6 bounds and 2 assists is a B grade in a low scoring game
Folgerous made some good plays and he didnt

I would say B+ considering like you say the opponent at their place

10 pts 6 bounds and 2 assists for Manyawu in half a game is better than B- on the road and #4

I would give the team a B overall, the ballhandling was C- otherwise it is a win with an A- grade

I think the “we are young” excuse coaches use are moot in the transfer portal age where you can build a roster from scratch. If you aren’t a good recruiter and don’t have a lot of NIL you will not get very far. Michigan offered Yaxel 3 million dollars!!! We are never going to be able to do that.

Appreciate the effort.

But after reading this "Stirtz: C Didn't seem to be in the game" I stopped reading.

We saw a different game, apparently. I saw him getting (*** *****) (put whatever words you want there) at Clown ..Place - a strategy that won't work for the Clowns outside of that venue..

So we had the experience, again, of needing the others to step up.

And we did a better job of that than at MSU.
