From my best friend from 4th grade. We lived in the Oak Heights neighborhood in Omaha. Remember the movie The Sandlot? He was my Sandlot buddy. He was "husky" and I was skinny.

He tells me his father died of COVID-19. He had to watch his father take his final breath from outside the hosptial through a window because his wife was in a high risk category.

I know what this feels like and called him on my way home from work. Puts a lot of this into perspective. I can now say that I knew someone who died of COVID-19.

No one prevented him from being with his father. He chose not to do so due to his wife being in a high risk category.

I was a Sandoz Tiger...lots of friends/teammates/etc from the Applewood area back in the day. Went to Central Middle School.

I had to look that up. I lived in Millard for a year when we first moved to Omaha. Applewood Heights was a cornfield when I lived in Oak Heights. Unfortunately, I moved to Indiana after 4th grade.

Where are you in Indiana? I have been banished to Indianapolis for the past 21 years. Recently retired and moving back to Nebraska soon

Sorry for your friends loss. I remember when the pandemic had been going on for months and everyone I talked to didn't even know anyone that has had covid, and now almost everyone knows someone who has died from Covid. I still think if they would have shut everything down as it was needed instead of shutting down rural Nebraska in April people would be taking it more serious now. The spring shut down affected so many people's incomes and caused a lot of depression when the virus wasn't even relevant in most areas then.

I too am sorry for your friends loss and the manner in which it happened.

I wonder if we will get back to some semblance of normalcy in 6 months. In the past, people were reported to have died with complications from the flu. Will we now be deathly afraid of any transmittable viruses? I am concerned about a permanent cult of fear taking residency in the minds of Americans and what the ramifications of that look like.

I lived in Angola for six and a half years until I moved to Texas when I was 17. That was a long time ago. Thank God I left that place.
