I will be coming to the game with a group of 4. We will be driving up from DC that morning. I was reading your visiting fan thread. I have no idea how busy to expect things for the Minnesota game and I am looking at buying a parking pass. How early should we get there? If we get there by noon for a 3:30 game will that be good enough if we have a pass in the yellow or blue lot?

We are looking forward to the game as none of us have been to a game @ Rutgers before.

Thanks. That should give us time to tailgate and check out the Rutgers tailgate scene without having to get up way too early.

It's our homecoming so should be better than normal attendance but our normal is so low it don't matter. You'll be fine arriving at noon.

It's homecoming, but there shouldn't be much traffic right up to kickoff and empty seats as nobody goes into the game.

Sorry you’re not visiting at a better time for our program. Silver lining is this is our homecoming game, so tailgating should be pretty decent. Wouldn’t be surprised if most people just keep the tailgate going rather than heading into the game.

You’ll have fun. We have a great setup for tailgating.

Doesn't PJ mandate that you guys "Row the Boat"? The stadium is not far from the Raritan River.

If you need more guidance on food/bar/lodging options, there are some newer restaurants.

Guessing you guys are happy with PJ?

It will also be a little homecoming for quite a number of the Gopher coaches.
Maybe, just maybe, we may still be celebrating another homecoming of a former RU coach by then.

Welcome to "The Banks". If you are buying a parking pass I agree those lots are best as they are fairly close to the stadium and have a great tailgate scene. Noon should be fine for a afternoon start but gates do open early. We are a pretty friendly fan base so don't be shy saying hello.

One thing, our tailgate scene is pretty good but our stadium food sucks. Be warned.

Well the stadium food has gotten better since Suckdexo was dropped. O and we sell beer now inside the stadium @101stGopher

We are at our low point now so you shouldn't have any problems finding parking.

That said hopefully whoever ends up being our new HC will get us good again. Then you will need to return to get the full experience.

Good luck and welcome to the banks!

Not everyone is happy with PJ but I am rowing the boat. These next two games against Illinois and Nebraska (both at home) will tell us a lot. If we can be 6-0 heading into the game with you I think folks will be really pleased. 5-1 and maybe people are happy. Some people don't like his enthusiasm and all the jargon and antics and i can understand that. They want a grumpy old Mike Zimmer type coach.

I bought a pass in the yellow lot for $63. Is there a liquor store somewhere close to buy beer? Other than the absolute must purchase of Yuengling our group is into micro-brews so any local suggestions? I want to sample the local brews. We have a couple IPA guys, a porter/brown ale type guy, and then more of a amber ale, Oktoberfest, German type pils guy. We don't plan to bring food other than snacks. Maybe we can hit those food trucks I read about or else we will buy in the stadium. Anything close to the lots?

Disclaimer, one guy is actually a Nebraska fan...

Close bar/package goods to pick up beer, and Quikchek next door for snacks:

Make sure you stop at any local deli and order a Taylor Ham (aka pork roll) egg and cheese on a roll or bagel. This is Jersey's go to breakfast. Just don't put ketchup on it. Sacrilege.

No. Don't do that if you are looking for a wide selection of craft beer. Also, if you are coming up the Turnpike from DC, River Rd Tavern is out of the way past the stadium, near I-287. If you're going to go there, you might as well cross the river and go to Bottle Republic on Easton Ave which has a much better selection of craft beers.

Assuming you are coming up the NJ Turnpike from DC, your best bet is to make a quick detour into Highland Park and stop at Rite Aid Pharmacy (which also has a good beer and liquor selection), Pinos, or Highland Park Wine & Liquors.

There are also some good places in New Brunswick, but parking can be difficult.

Good choice. Yellow is a great lot. Easy in, easy out. Close to stadium. Slightly more "mature" crowd.

With the way that you are coming, it is 10-15 min north of the stadium, but https://www.bottlerepublic.com/ has an excellent selection of beers with selections broken down by state. Generally Kane and Carton are considered the best of the NJ brewers, but there are a ton of options to choose from.

Assuming you are coming up 287 North. You can get off at the Stelton Rd exit. There is a Buy Rite on Stelton and Wine Chateau on Centennial Ave. Both are in Piscataway and are a few mins from the stadium. If you are looking to spend time in New Brunswick then I would go with the other choices posted earlier in the tread.

If you come up the Tpke and get off at Exit 9, you'll be on the NB side of the river. The stadium is across the river with one main bridge off College Ave/George St. Pick up the beer beforehand if you can because the traffic patterns by the stadium aren't as easy to go elsewhere. Not sure what kind of crowd will show up either.
Enjoy the trip.

I agree with those options. Also not far from the stadium, Wine Chateau in Piscataway off Centennial Avenue has a solid selection (that may be a little out of their way depending on the direction they are coming from).

We don't offer Hamm's, yet.

Too bad.

I've had beer at Daytona at Indy and LeMans

But a beer is a beer is a beer is a beer until you've tasted Hamm's!

One commercial that's stuck with me was a Hamm's takeoff of an ice cream truck coming into a neighborhood and all the men acting like excited children.

If you have a shortage there I can probably import some for you all. We have plenty of Hamm's here.

I'm sure Hamm's is easily found in most liquor stores in NJ right between the Old Milwaukee and Keystone Light

Thank you for the perfect advice. We got a parking pass in the yellow lot, got there early, and had a great time tailgating with all the Rutgers fans. Great atmosphere, great football fans, super welcoming, and we had an absolutely great time on our trip to Rutgers. Classy fans for sure. I got a burger made for me, ate some secret recipe deviled eggs, smoked a free cigar, had jello shots, and talked B1G football with a great group of folks. Thanks for a great weekend.

Glad you had a good time. By the way, I noticed they were selling Hamm's in the stadium, at at least one beer stand.
