Don't click if you don't want to but this quote, to me, says it all about his self-awareness...

“It didn’t start the way I wanted it to (but) It’s coming together now,’’ Young said. “It was just getting back into game rhythm. I created a whole bunch of bad habits because I didn’t play for like 500 days. You’re playing pickup. It’s just different basketball so you just have to get back into the groove.’

Said that from the beginning. Patience paying off.

I really like that he recognized that he had developed bad habits. What a great sign of maturity and humility as well. Now here's seeing the results of listening to the coaching staff and putting in the hard work. Jacob went from being a very frustrating player to watch to one that is very exciting to watch. Keep it up Jacob!

after the first few games last year the majority on this board thought McConnell wasn’t good enough for the Patriot League. He was def. a deer in headlights for a bit

This team can do some serious damage with the emergence of JY and Mulcahy. Myles is emerging as a beast. We have so so much depth but JY brings that speed and quickness that we have been missing to go along with all our size and length

Yes but the biggest thing he has to learn is that he is a point guard first, although a scoring one. His mindset must become that I will pass first to set my guys up and then get the ball back to drive . He must know we are willing passers. When Myles gets it in the post or at the foul line he will look to pass. So if Jacob dumps it to Myles , he will get it back wide open when they collapse on Myles. That has to be his mindset. His initial selfishness is wearing off but still must be reinforced. When Jones went off for Penn State with those 8-10 straight points, Jacob tried to match him shot for shot until he turned it over driving recklessly and Pike took him out and inserted Montez, who not only shut down Jones but went on his own personally 7-9 point burst.

He is our only true PG. Need him to keep improving.
LOL.....no. He just happens to be short. Mulcahy is actually the only true PG.

Great article. JY has a lot of talent and brings big time energy - fun to watch. Very happy for JY and glad he’s recognizing he needed to play more under control. He can get to the hole, he’s getting a lot smarter on when and what to do with the rock when he penetrates.

Young is trending in the right direction but we still need him to be aggressive. We are going to need to live with a couple out of control aggressive plays a game. He actually made a bunch of really nice passes early in the PSU game but players didn't convert

A true PG that can’t guard other team’s PG. That is funny.

Talking about offense. True PGs control the game and set up their players to score. Assist / TO.

Are you saying if you’re a great defender and can guard a PG then that makes you a true PG?

Paul is a good passer. Just need to play alongside a PG in the lineup. It’s 5 on 5 and you have to be able to match up. We are beating people with a great D and efficient O.

Spot on. There will be a few head scratchers every game thats who he is, but if the positives outweigh, and he doesn't get too emotional out there, he's a huge plus.

Mulcahy is the closest thing we have to a "pure PG" on offense (or at least more of an old school definition of a pure PG), but so far he hasn't shown he can stay with speedy PGs on defense. He's tall, which raises his center of gravity, so he needs to work on foot speed and using his length as an advantage against smaller, faster PGs.

JY is absolutely the guy you want defending point guards, but he's more of a combo guard on offense. The last few games, though, it's really started to click more offensively, and he's doing a better job trying to facilitate rather than look for his shot. What he has so far lacked is the sort of calm leadership you want from a point guard "floor general", who can feel when we're pushing too hard, reset the team's energy level, and dictate the plays on offense. Baker and Mulcahy have shown to have that, while JY can sometimes let the energy of the moment impact his decision making.

Great to see JY shaking off the rust and really coming on - can't wait to see him continue to develop, because he's been on a tear lately.

Chop, it is good that JY finally absorbed what Pike had been trying to teach him. Much as I liked Corey Sanders' ability, he never seemed to get the message, even when Pike sat him. Wasn't till the B1G tournament run after two years with Pike that it seemed to sink in. Hopefully it has completely sunk in with JY. He can call it shaking off the rust but it involves fundamental changes to the way he plays, and good for him.
