It sounds like he is different and by the quotes has bought in. I still find it tough to get over how he made fun of Kone and Biruta.

I still think he could have really succeeded here if the events that got him fired had not occurred. If he truly has his anger under control, it will make him a better coach. I hope he gets another chance somewhere in College.

I watched him closely on the sideline in Saturday's UCT championship between Patrick School - Roselle Catholic. I noticed an obvious change. Still intense and he let guys know when they screwed up, but he seemed to add a positive touch. Not sure if he has toned it down because it's HS (I would tend not to think so).

Sometimes it takes being forced to look at your actions and losing the respect you once had to learn how to be a better person.
I get on MR for his actions while the RU HC,but feel the practice videos were blown out of proportion, his verbal abuse of some of the RU players was the best reason he needed to be let go.

Hopefully he'll keep on improving as a person and be the type of HC a school can be proud of.
I'm sure MR will get an opportunity as an college assistant and try to move back to being a HC from there or start over again as a HS BB HC and try to clime up the ladder from there.

You can be intense and demanding without being belittling and mean. If he can balance his passion with teaching in a positive way, he can be one hell of a coach.

Mike Rice needs to go away.

His damage to the Rutgers Program ran deep. Negative recruiting against Rutgers was always easy due to the 25 year history, lack of school support and piss poor facilities.....his actions and the resultant national embarrassment made negative recruiting a piece of cake. You know your recruiting will be harmed when NBA superstars that young kids look up to and admire say, "I would never send my kid to Rutgers".

The damage Rice did to this program was immense.

Great post and great point.

FWIW the CC at their annual auction had a red chair signed by Bobby Knight with a plaque commemorating the night he threw the chair onto the court. Maybe the pads and basketball used should have been kept and auctioned off.

Never mind Mike Rice. Each year Eddie has had to recruit off of something debilitating of his own doing-92-31, a 15 game losing streak and now this.

Without Mike Rice, there would not have been a 91-31.
Mike Rice was rightly fined and suspended for what we saw on the videos-at worst fired as he was, but it was Barchi's bungling then the media and pols that blew-up the RU program. Mike Rice would not have a 92-31 millstone around his neck.
