Glass Half Full

I’m fed up with Pike and ready for a change, and lord knows there are tons of negatives so far, but that doesn’t mean I want our team to fail this year.

As the ultimate optimist I look for any positives I can find, to offer a glimmer of hope:

1) We’ve only lost one game we should have won.
2) Our other 4 losses are against these Kenpom rankings: #1, #6, #18, and #62.
3) We’ve seen the emergence of 5 freshmen who will contribute, and improvement by 4 returnees.
4) There are signs that several other B1G teams will struggle, besides just PSU and Minnesota.
5) We’ve seen Pike teams falter in the early season and then recover enough to put up a good fight in the B1G conference games.

The SHU game will be very telling. I don’t expect to win, and there are no moral victories, but if we play well and lose in a close battle, we can at least hope for a competitive season.

See my OP — we do not have the right coach imo, especially for this new era. So my only hope is that we can at least be competitive this year and give the new coach something to work with for next year.

In the latest interview with Jerry Recco, here are some of the things Pike mentioned:
- 7 Freshman on our team playing against 25 year olds.
- The four guys that did stay are developing and getting better.
- Michigan and Purdue are both #1 caliber teams. Competition is tough.

This is further proof that he's not the right guy for this era of college basketball.

If Zinn can somehow give him the resources to retain everyone, then yes in 2 years this could be a good team. But what we've seen so far is he's been a net loser with the portal.

Does Seton Hall have more resources than Rutgers for hoops? Shaheen Halloway is on track to convert them from a 7 win team to an NCAA Tournament participant. And he's already been in the Elite Eight with far inferior talent with St. Peters.

They do have more money this year but its more than that

Pike isnt adaptable to the nil world...can he get a team even with nil money to 20-12 next year...im 95% no
