We missed JH's great play by play at the game today so of course he cannot recap on here, so to fill in for him and hit the highlights, the Big Red remained unbeaten today but in all fairness to the Cougars, who I believe are still looking for their first win of the season, they came to play and made a game of it. The game was a 1-0 pitcher's duel into the bottom of the sixth before RHS scratched for three runs on a couple of walks, a hit or two, and a hit batter with the bases loaded.
The Draft pitcher (23, sorry I didn't hang on to my program) battled effectively against RHS ace Kyle Bishop until that last inning and I would not be surprised if the Cougars had as many or maybe more hits than Riverheads did today. However, the Draft undoing was that their hits were scattered and they seldom, if ever, were able to move the base runners into scoring position. In fact I cannot remember a single Draft runner reaching second all day. Riverheads on the other hand stole second a couple of times and got one timely hit in the fourth to score their first run before adding the insurance scores in their last at bat.
Next up for the Big Red is a trip to Luray on Friday to wrap up the first cycle through the Shenandoah schedule.
Next door to today's game, the ladies locked horns in a wild back and forth softball slugfest eventually won by the home team as the Lady Gladiators rallied from a 10-9 deficit with a pair of runs in the 7th to win 11-10.
