Did Arik Gilbert get clearance to play this season? The last I heard his situation is still up in the air.

As a Husker fan, I would like to see him on the field this year. But can someone explain this one time transfer rule to me? Gilbert already transferred once so shouldn't he have to sit out a year? Or is his situation some how different?

a player can ask for a waiver for immediate eligibility on a case by case basis. There have been several approvals. Last I read Rhule was optimistic he would get the waiver. If I recall, they didn’t even process the waiver until after spring

I think some of Rhule's confidence was from the fact that Georgia seemed to support Gilbert getting a change of scenery and playing right away. That the mental health stuff was legit and not just a cop out to leave. I'm sure Kirby Smart vouching for Gilbert to play right away holds some sway.

Well you'd think they would have to rule one way or another pretty soon.
It's the NCAA..

Just site racism or mental health as reasons and you'd think you'd be golden these days.

I think it’s BS that it takes this long. Factors haven’t changed in the last 6 months.
Again, Nebraska didn't even file the paperwork for the waiver until well after spring football had concluded. If memory serves, it was well into May or after. I am not defending the NCAA and processes, I am just saying it isn't taking as long as it appears. Most people believe the waiver was filed when he arrived in January, not the case.

All he has to do is state "mental health" as his reason and he will get a waiver. The NCAA is not going to **** with that stuff.

"Why do you want this waiver"

"It will be good for my mental health"

waiver approved.
