IMO, Lanie simply needs to improve her ballhandling skills so that she can get up court confidently. She played pretty good defense and rebounded well last night. She also draws defenders out of the lane to give NH and CT room to operate in the lane.Lanie should not be getting starters minutes. She’s offering very little right now except good free throw shooting. In the first half, our offense was insanely stagnant with her on the floor. It wasn’t great in that game in general, but we got into a much better flow after she subbed out. She doesn’t move without the ball well. And even against FSU most of her points came in the fourth quarter with the game out of reach.
I really appreciated that CB benched Harris after not going after a very reachable rebound. She literally asked why and when Nyla didn’t even acknowledge her she put in Taliyah and she didn’t come back in the rest of the game.
Indya is going through it right now. But I will say, tge last few games it feels like she’s realizing she’s not going to be our No. 1 option on offense. While she pushed too hard on some the last couple of games, it’s been a significant decrease in those kinds of decisions since the Stanford and ND games. So maybe she’s getting the idea.
Brooks… super bad night.
We need to start Elina and put RK at the 2… that’s our best backcourt option. Bring Lanie off the bench and mix Hull in at the 2 some, too.
NH played fairly well with 8 rebs and 6 pts on limited shots. The stats don’t reflect it but she created 3 steals last night by reaching and knocking the ball away. That’s one of the reasons she was out of position for the rebound is because she was attempting to reach again and wasn’t on her toes to pursue. Turnage’s length and quickness were very effective against NH.
Nyla Brooks needs to learn to shoot the pull up and develop a floater. When the defender runs her off the 3pt line she becomes very limited in her ability to contribute offensively. She has the foot quickness and length to do so much more than just rely on her long distance shot.
Henderson needs to play a lot more minutes. She brings lots of energy and is multi-dimensional. She moves her feet well while defending, rebounds, has quickness and handle to get in the lane and finish, and is an outside threat. I love her game and don’t understand why she’s underutilized.
RK is getting her rhythm back and she plays well with Elina in the lineup since both are confident ball handlers. She becomes the primary ball handler when Elina isn’t in the game. Indya has lost some of her mojo offensively but what she brings to the court defensively and with rebounds and steals more than makes up for it. GTech’s defense simply limited her ability to get in the lane and finish. They made shots tough for her.
