Caleb is a role player. He’s a 15 minute per game guy. That’s it. He ll excel during some games but he’s a role player best suited to come off the bench.

We re starting games without a PG and it’s hurting us per our lack of fast starts as of late

The above is not critical of Caleb as he means a lot to this team but I feel he’s just better suited to come off the bench

i agree with your premise and i thought the same....i do want him off the ball and off the bench but i now believe he is a guy on this team that is a 22-25 MPG. i didnt think this at the start of the year. today he was real bad, but i like what he has brought to the team

Lot of recency bias on this board. Tonight it's Caleb is just a role player, next loss it will be Geo is just no good

this....I have said it for 2 years...careful of putting too much load and asking too much from Caleb. He is good at what he does well and carrying a heavy burden including starting and an offensive option out of the gate isnt one of them

when he is given his role, he does very well

Other than Doucoure, Geo has the worst eFG on the team in conference play fwiw

15 mins a game is just insulting for what Caleb brings to the table. Sure 15 for tonight as he was bad

Just curious, could he be suffering from the flu? Several SH players are. One even had to go to the hospital and missed the game (bench player). That could explain his not starting.

Quick start? How about Jacob and Geo.Two high energy, lock down guys who can score the rock.If players are truly “interchangeable “ then Pike should prove it.
He likely won’t of course.(though at least Geo will start)

True. I wouldn’t think to even argue against his best games being conference games being against Nebraska and Northwestern.
The two bottom feeders. He also played a big part in us losing the Michigan and MD games. I'm not sure he's even shooting 30% on the season, definitely in the 20's range from three. Aside from Geo vs. NW, Young is the one keeping us in games late. Geo can't get over screens which leads to open threes, nearly every guard in the league beats him off the dribble, and he turns the ball over way too much for a PG. Yes, he single handedly won the NW game, and he's had some late game heroics, but as an overall player, Caleb, Mathis and Young are all better.

Q Is it true you are starting recent games very slowly?
Pike: Yes,obviously
Q Aren’t your first nine essentially interchangeable?
Pike:Yes each are capable and I trust them
Q Then why not start Jacob and Geo to give the ten a kick start
Pike :?..............,,.

Young is electric. He, Caleb and Mathis were dynamic vs. Michigan, and he and Mathis are great on the ball defenders who can get over screens and stop penetration - ala not as many open threes against us.

With the problem being such low energy sluggish starts inthought giving Young some consideration is warranted. He brings speed quickness and energy and if Pike really cares about defense Young is our best on ball defender at the 1. Don't think he goes that route but Geo was starting earlier when we had more hot starts

Was saying the same thing last night. Even if he's not making shots, he does tend to steady the ship. They always say you shouldn't lose your starting job because of injury...he looks like he's healthy again.

The slow starts have been KILLING US. The game was lost in the first half. Come on Pike.
Not that I disagree, I think it's time, but It's not like he didn't play in the first half, I'd say they definitely stretched the lead while he was in there.

Yea, it is an odd choice to sit all 3 PGs. Caleb CAN play PG but hes 6'7 and more of a wing. It makes the rotations strange too

Would also consider Young to send a message and bring energy fright from the tip. He plays hard all game every game with intensity
I really hesitate to do that. Big payoff if he plays well but if he turns into a turnover machine...

Meh, unless it's a live ball turnover that leads to a fast break it's essentially the same as a missed shot. We are down double digits so early every game too. His on ball defense is excellent. He brings more energy than anyone. Would consider it even if only for a one game message. Geo should be a lock to start next game though
