Loved him as a basketball ref. Seemed like a good guy. Never emotional. Solid.
I knew he officiated football. I never knew he officiated BB.
He did several Rutgers games at the RAC. Last I recall was about 2018 maybe 2017.
He did Big ten hoops games. Got my wife a Cameo with him two years ago haha.

I have center court tickets close to the scorer's table and we would occasionally get on the Refs for awful calls (imagine that!).
Gene was smart in dealing with fans and enjoyed his work.
After a while, Gene would ask me how they were doing when he was at the scorer's table.
My answer: you are doing fine, but your partners are.....suggestive criticism (missing walks, inconsistent foul calls with contact so players don't know how to play defense).
I have row A seats and I chatted with him briefly before he did his last Super Bowl (as head referee). He was very approachable. I was always happy to see him vs Bo, Courtney, or Teddy on the court.
She loves referees and sports. No-brainer.

I find it weird when they go to him to weigh in on which player was the last to touch the ball before it went out of bounds. There's not really any rule interpretation there, just looking at the replays.
