Yep. Rough night. Murphy just cannot get over the hump against Franklin.

Looking like SM is just that much better this year. They only lost by 1 against the defending 1a champions (Robbinsville) last week.

Smoky IS better this year, and Swain's offense has yet to get untracked. Swain's line play is not as dominant as it has been in previous years, especially not on O.

Not being a 1A guy it's hard to understand that. It'd be like McDowell up here in the MAC smacking everybody around. Just hard to believe after hearing about Robbinsville, Swain and Murphy for so many years.

Hey, it happens occasionally. Smoky has had a long dry stretch. Maybe they're starting to come out of it a little bit. And it's still early in the season. And the fat lady ain't sung yet. :)

SM is fairly legit. Disciplined on both sides. Not the greatest kicking & punting, but overall a good team. Swain just hasn't gotten it together so far. Wobbly throws and #16 needs to work on his pitching when running the option.

The only wow about it was how bad we were tonight. Congrats to SM. They are tough but our offense gave us zero chance to win tonight. Our defense is very solid but unless our offense figures things out we will be lucky to finish 3rd in the conference.

Sm has improved some but we looked terrible tonight, Sm also controlled the Line of Scrimmage on both sides of the ball. No "O" what so ever.

Smokey must be legit. Sounds like the conference could be pretty even, could be some barn burners in conference play.

Franklin gave Murphy a good dose of run, run, and run some more. After going down 7-0, Murphy drove to Franklins 12. A costly fumble was picked up and returned for a Franklin TD, putting the panthers up 14-0. After that, it was an uphill battle for the Dogs. Murphy adjusted a bit better on defense in the 2nd half after allowing 28 first half points. Murphy had 2 chances to bring it down to a 7 point game late in the 3rd qt but couldnt get it done. Franklin put it away with a late 4th qt TD. Franklin has a very good team no doubt and deserved to win. Murphys 2 redzone turnovers and the inabilty to stop Franklins run game in the 1st half did the Dogs in.

I saw an Erwin vs. North Buncombe game about 7 or 8 years ago where Erwin was up by 3 on the 2 yard line about to punch it in with 10 seconds on the clock and they fumbled. It was picked up by Randy Presley and returned for a NB touchdown. That's a hard way to go out.
